KK Downingsyndrome User Info... | This is exactly what I've been waiting for from Angra since Andre Matos left (taking his classical stylings and keys with him). New vocalist Eduardo Falaschihas settled into position with this slab of pure Prog-Metal mastery, his tonality bringing to mind Bruce Dickinson and, moreso, Tobias Sammet. Many guests voices are lent, as Hansi Kurch, Kai Hansen, Milton Nascimento, as well as a 24-piece choir for one song. Musically, it's a grabbag of Speed/Power Metal, heavy doses of Prog, and their own inimmitable fusing of their native culture's music. There's jazz, samba, folk music, and all played flawlessly and complimentary to the song. This is Metal with a world beat to it and it's never sounded better. After a creeping flute/piano intro, Angra kick it into high gear with "Spread your Fire", a speed Metal tune reminiscent of their early works. The pace isn't slowed until "Waiting Silence", a staccatto-riffed power rocker. "Wishing Well" has me thinking of the more middle eastern-influenced Led Zeppelin at the beginning, before erupting into a full-on power-ballad. Back to the old speed tricks, "The Temple of Hate" obliterates with double kicks and huge riffs designed to remind of Gamma Ray. No suprise, as Kai Hansen makes a guest duet on this track. Worth the coverprice alone. I could go on, but if what I've written hasn't convinced you of this albums great worth, you either don't like this style of music to begin with or have never been exposed to the amazing musicianship of Angra. - Mon, 6 Dec 2004 12:48pm | ||
