denny User Info... | Unfortunately I was late to the show and missed the Riverboat Gamblers. The first thing I did after getting the mandatory pat down was stand in the drink line, but when the lights went out down in the arena part of the stadium I realized it was stand in line for half of Rancid's set, or go without beer. I certainly didn't pay $50 to see Rise Against so thank god I already had 2 cans of Lucky Lager in my belly, and high tailed it down to the floor. Rancid opened with 'Radio' which got me pumped. Tim Armstrong was wearing the biggest dress shirt I have ever seen, it came down to his knees. He spins around like crazy, tweaking his guitar all over the place, but never missing a note. Granted he doesn't play it very much, but it is nice to see after all these years he doesn't lose any of his energy (not counting when I saw them 12 years ago) or performance. Lars and Matt were both in fine form, and most of their set list came from 'And out come the wolves...' plus 3 from the new album, 3 from 'Let's Go', 1 from 'Life Won't Wait' and don't quote me on this, but possibly only 1 from 'Indestructible'. None from the first album, but no surprise there, and none from '2000'. That was kind of a bummer, and I definitely would have cut the acoustic tune from the new album and stuck a couple of ragers from 2000 into the set. But all in all they played great, it sounded awesome and they had the best light show I have ever seen at a stadium concert in my life. Two work lights on either side of the stage on big stands pointing downwards at the band. That was it, and it was perfect. I could see the band, and what more did I need? The line up for beer was out of control. It was a mosh pit in its own rights, and I think I got short changed, but didn't even mention it. I just needed out of the mayhem. Rise Against was actually pretty good, and I am by no means a fan. Anytime I think of them I can't help but think of 88 Fingers Louie, because this is the band that formed from 88's ashes, and look what they made of themselves! Packing out Pacific Coliseum, having Rancid opening for them and people losing their shit. I had no idea they were THAT popular. Once the singer drops his guitar it gets a little more energetic. But the other guitarist is pretty lively with his jumps and kicks and sometimes jump kicks. He looks like an alien with his bulbous bald head and big ears. I yelled out 'take me to your leader' but I think my joke was lost on the 14 year olds I was surrounded by. They gave us some really dirty looks when we busted out the joint. My friend made sure to blow all his second hand smoke at the kid who gave us the dirtiest look. That poor kid probably felt whacky after that. We could have very well changed his life that night. Then my friend and I discussed leaving before the encore and Rise Against played a pretty wild song and everybody was going crazy. Then they left the stage and we were like, maybe we could handle a little more. Then the singer came out with just an acoustic guitar, and we were like 'uh-oh', but we stayed through the ballad. Then the alien came out with an acoustic guitar and it got worse. We left. Some crackhead bitch busted out her barefoot on the bus and was picking her bunions. Don't crackheads have any decency at all? Then my friend and I went to The Biltmore and caught No Horses set. Damn, they should have been the ones playing at the stadium to thousands of people. Do yourself a favour and check these guys out. They killed it with their classic rock n roll stylings and epic tunes. Made me want to stomp my feet, yell at the top of my lungs and dance like nobody was watching. Unfortunately security WAS watching and told me to calm down or I was out. - Fri, 5 Jun 2009 6:39pm
Sati User Info... | There's a No Horses song I really love. Biltmore security told you to calm down? What exactly were you doing? I picture you spinning on the floor or something - I've seen you on stage. I missed all that, and went to Pat's pub and saw Valerie Graham and her Drinkin' Problems (love those songs!) and then the Manglers. I had no idea Donut or Phil were in that. Donut was way cooler than I thought he'd be singing, and Phil's such a solid player. They were all great - total fun night. I saw a bunch of those kids who probably gave you the dirty looks on the bus after. All with Rancid shirts, it was cute. I would've liked to have seen 'em. Hey dayglos blackie & plow tonight!!!!! - Fri, 5 Jun 2009 7:11pm Edited: Fri, 5 Jun 2009 7:23pm
denny User Info... | Dayglo canceled. I guess it's too late to warn you now though. Haha, the Biltmore security didn't actually tell me to calm down. I just thought it made a funny end to the story, and it brings me back to the time that the loser security there pulled me out of the mosh pit, and threatened to kick me out for hanging a beer can off a hook on the ceiling. But this time around my friend and I were pretty mellow. It had been a long night. And you're lucky to share the bus with wanna be punk kids rather than a bare footed cracker!! Also I have found a new love for Pats Pub. The last JB show there was fantastic. Facefest @ The Railway club tomorrow night. Over 30 bands playing 15 minute sets. Should be pretty wild! - Sat, 6 Jun 2009 12:03am
Vites User Info... | Thanks for the review. Rancid kicked ass and I was very impressed by Rise Against. After that performance, I'm a fan. I didn't notice an alien bobble head in the band though. Did anybody see the Riverboat Gamblers? Were they any good? And yes, the beer line was unbearably long. - Wed, 10 Jun 2009 9:25am Edited: Wed, 10 Jun 2009 9:25am
