Sati User Info... | I keep missing all these bands, or just running in for parts of their sets, so to see them all together, making up such a killer lineup was awesome. I got there a little late, but caught Motorama. The first incarnation of Motorama something like 10 years ago was one of my favorite locals. They've gone through a zillion lineup changes, and have persevered through good and bad. I can't say enough about singer/guitarist Marcus (personally he's truly just as solid & sweet & intriguing a guy as you could hope for), but what I like most is that no matter what kind of support (or lack of) Vancouver's been able to provide, he's kept going... they tour ALL the time... they play ALL the time... they support ALL the time. He hasn't let anything or anyone stand in his way from he & his band becoming exactly what he'd intended. And damn when times get tough, I need inspiration like that! They're one of those local bands that always delivers and is a mainstay in our town, but isn't up in your face waving & demanding attention. A excellent, working band.. its understated.. everyone here just knows like its among our cool secrets (you know how every place has those). Anyway, they were killer tight as usual, and still retain a lot of that really unique sound that I loved them for way back. Unique isn't something you hear a lot of either... no one can do what they do, and thats saying something. Find their links and listen - Excellent band. The Piss-Ups were next and what kills me about them is the amount of character they're loaded up with. The singer just exudes all sorts of balls & swagger, and although the bass player's pretty quiet up there, you can tell there's something there that could explode & lunge at you if you're not careful. Add to that their drummers absolutely hot. They remind me of real punk bands like the Applicators who I used to see in Austin, and in a sea of wanna-be punks, its SO reassuring to know that these girls are here representing. I wouldn't call them the tightest band (but thats not what they're about - they've got so much more, so who cares?), and I can't say I've seen a really potent show where they've been in your face start to finish (that also takes the right audience!), but I'm so into them. I'd say the last 2/3 of their set was in the pocket, I loved it and want more. Now I've heard several people refer to The Fiends as the best band in Vancouver, and I've gotta say that I just can't dispute that. Really captivating vocals, guitars, keys.... I danced my ass off and it felt good. Just go see them. Each and every one of these band deserves a hard look see. I mean that. - Sat, 2 Jun 2007 4:03pm Edited: Sat, 2 Jun 2007 4:06pm
Sati User Info... | I just wanted to add that Motorama are one of LMV's biggest supporters - we get a ton of traffic off them and we do nothing special in return. Its not like Victoria where so many of you get behind your own - here its a little different and there aren't a whole ton of bands who see that even though we reach a whole lot of people, we need support just like they do. So when I said that they support (not just us, but a whole lot of us in the community), this is just one example. Nevermind the band rocks. - Sat, 2 Jun 2007 4:44pm
