Sloan last night was very good. Played all the "hits."

I was impressed with Magneta Lane out of Toronto, Canada.

Nice, simple pop rock, very cute young ladies. I tried to chat them up after their set, but they weren't so much into me.

Thought Armchair was on the bill? It took Magneta Lane forever to start the show, and the stage turn-around was even longer, a third band could have easily fit in the night.

The club was packed, lots of beatiful people, would have loved to see a Victoria band open up. I had fun. - Mon, 9 May 2005 2:25pm

I thought Magenta Lane was crap, I didnt even know their name till just now. The sound for them was the shits but it wouldnt have helped the unimaginative crap rock in my mind. The vocals seemed way out of place and it was like she was trying to do too much with her voice. Sloan was as expected, pretty tight, definitly worth the $0 I paid to go. - Mon, 9 May 2005 2:49pm

Sloan is pretty tight. You can really hear and feel the difference between the relativly new Magneta Lane and veteran rockers Sloan. - Mon, 9 May 2005 4:19pm

Magenta Lane weren't really my cup of tea. The guitarist seemed a bit shaky, perhaps it was inexperience or nerves. At the same time though, they seem like a pretty young band so I've got to give them credit for having the guts to take the stage in the first place.

Sloan was, as expected, pretty solid. They didn't sound as good as the had a few nights before at the Commodore (but that probably has more to do with the venue, and not the band itself). Chris was very animated and excitable, but Jay seemed to be lurking in the shadows a little more than usual. While their set was shorter than at the Vancouver show, this was forgiven because they still played Snowsuit Sound.

And I agree, it would have been great to see a local band added to the bill. - Wed, 11 May 2005 10:52am
