moron User Info... | Gawddamn, what a rad way to get some summer catharsis. Garageband Extravaganza Saturday, August 14 //num were the opener and let's just say I was quite impressed. I liked them at last year's Jinglepot Stock event but they presented a hell of a lot more range this time and managed to peg a spot between the more outside Sonic Youth noise jams and something weird and scratchy from the pure junk noise camp. Scrabbling hollow body electric guitar, bowed electric, ring modulator, homemade string instruments, you name it. Intense, building and hypnotic. skrunt skrunt took over next and likewise, pretty much every time I see Abram in action he bumps it up a notch. This time he mixed in some new industrial / dark ambient like elements I hadn't heard from him before as well as a good solid digi-noise based ass kicking. Not a frequency emerged unscathed and definitely I was impressed. I'm in griefer and we played next. The sound was decent (especially considering this was an outdoor show) and it was definitely fun screaming profanities out into the night air. Thanks to Adam for letting us go on earlier so we could get more of a chance to hog the spouts on the two micro-brew kegs at the show. The next band I am not sure their name but they were a traditional slightly goth sounding rock unit. Not really my thang but people seemed to enjoy it. Burning Bush closed the night with a totally awesome set. They enclosed the barn with clear plastic, filled it with smoke and then had a super 8 projecting against it which created this ghostly floating image to go along with the barrage of spooky texture and blurbly electronics. Throw in some creepy masks and all around tight atmosphere and they were definitely the highlight of the night for me. Gotta say this was one of the best times I have *ever* had at a show, total unencumbered success. Hell, even an impromptu corn eating contest erupted which went pretty well with the farm theme. If you missed it, well, your fucking loss - this was a very cool and special event. Don't miss next year's (or the next Noise! fest for that matter). major thanks to Adam and co. for being gracious hosts and here's to next year's event. Cheers - Mon, 16 Aug 2004 12:14pm | ||
