rip skinny User Info... | looking to get demo mastered for 7" anyone have an idea where i can get this done for cheap? preferably someone familiar with punk/grindcore and noise as fuck shit. -the best person ever. - Tue, 19 Jan 2010 2:18pm
Tyler User Info... | lots of punk/grind/etc bands seem to use aardvark or lucky lacquers. both have a good knowledge of working with the various pressing plants. lucky can act as a broker and I think they usually use rainbo. aardvark can send to any plant. based on my research... "vinyl mastering" is different than what you normally think of as mastering. it's just the process of optimizing sound to be put on vinyl properly. pressing plants will do this but tend to overcharge. if you want the post-mixing mastering involving careful aesthetic EQing, post mixing effects, compression, riding the levels of the final stereo track, etc... you might consider pre-mastering but only if you have a quality recording and are very concerned about the results matching that. bonati and a few other places do this. - Wed, 20 Jan 2010 1:36pm
Tyler User Info... | also beware of using pressing plants for your jackets, sleeves, etc because of their nature of overcharging. if you're trying to go the cheap route, you could get them to slap on blank labels and maybe make a stamp or something to decorate it. I always see ads in punk zines for Imprint, they print jackets but it might cost a lot. also bagsunlimited will sell you blank jackets I think and they also have plastic sleeves of various sizes. or you could just make slips and inserts yourselves. but I really hope you're thinking of using at least one colour on the front cover. there are so so so so many bad punk 7"s with bad black and white photocopied covers. it's still DIY to use some red or brown or something. - Wed, 20 Jan 2010 1:41pm
