FLY ON THE WALL User Info... | Seeing Conrad host a workshop on how to defend yourself against Police has brought up alot of questions for me. I used to be a punk and never had any problems with police. So hear is what I am thinking. If you have had an instance with the cops where you were wrongly assaulted, and you didnt lip them off and weren't doing anything wrong then please post it here. I have many reasons to be skeptical but let me give an example that kinda puts my perspective out there. I was at a show at fernwood once and the cops showed up because kids were throwing beers at the belfry and hanging out in the middle of the street. I talked to the cops and everything seemed cool. Then all of a sudden out of nowhere comes some crusty hippy who starts spitting off all this shit about how he knows his rights and they can't be here blah blah blah. You wonder why the cops get in peoples faces its because its usually other people get in their faces. I have many stories like this that I could share. - Thu, 15 Mar 2007 12:55am Edited: Thu, 15 Mar 2007 1:10am
Tyler User Info... | Well, this one time, the police saw me rollin'. I have reason to believe that they were hatin'. During this patrol period, and I have witnesses, they were trying to catch me ridin' dirty. I'll be honest, my music was so loud. And I was, at one point, swangin'. But still, I don't believe that gives them the right to be literally HOPING that they were going to catch me ridin' dirty. - Thu, 15 Mar 2007 2:43am
trevor corey User Info... | That is exactly why I am so against this "seminar". Some guy trying to be a big man rolls into town to teach impressionable young people how to defend themselves against police!?! First of all you can't teach anybody anything they will be able to recall in a hieghtened sense of anxiety in four hours. He's just setting them up with a false sense of power only to get severely injured or even killed by thinking they can challenge cops. Hey, I'm no cop lover, but in my day getting pepper sprayed by cops at a punk show was more of a badge of honour instead of something to cry to your mommy about. - Thu, 15 Mar 2007 3:02am
dumpstermesh User Info... | This was about 14 years ago but I was leaving a party in Vancouver with some friends and the cops pull over. We were just walking up the sidewalk (somewhat drunk) minding our own beeswax when the cops get out of their car and start asking us none of their business shit. "Where are you going?", and "Where are you coming from?". We didn't want to tell them that we were at a party getting plastered so we just said that we were on our way home. I swear I had one friend who always had a "harass me" sign on his forehead. One of the cops just grabs his arm and says, "You're coming with us." No reason, just grabbed him. I grabbed my friend's other arm and said, "No he's not, he hasn't done anything." The cop just gave me death glare and told me that I'd better let go. I said I wouldn't and that he had no reason to take my friend in. We were just walking home for fucks sake! We had a little tug of war with my friends in the middle and I won!! The cop finally decided that it wasn't going to be an easy collar for the night and let my friend go. We walked home with an air of supreme righteousness that night because little 100lb me won a arguement with a cop. - Thu, 15 Mar 2007 11:40am Edited: Thu, 15 Mar 2007 11:40am

Andrew User Info... | just put urself in a cops shoes..."wow..i really want to have power over the regular joe because i have an incredibly small penis and this is the only way ill ever feel bigger!" And then there are probably the people who had shitty childhoods getting abused and shit and want to make the world a better place who are the good cops. i've had encounters with both kinds but yea apparently i look too white to get in trouble with cops so i've been told. once at a park we were all getting drunk and stoned and after taking some of our weed (mine was stashed wooooow) and alcohol (also in the backpack lol) i said wow thids sure seems like fashism and they just left lol. I duno. Some of the stories i hear are pretty fucked up and maybe u all should write up a big pettition and make it very public about all your encounters... fighting back is obviously dumb lol...unless u want to get shot or shit kicked... - Thu, 15 Mar 2007 4:47pm
jackass User Info... | this story doesn't involve any police brutality, but some police hypocrisy.... was hanging with some friends last summer down at Jericho beach. We were BBQing, playing croquet and drinking some beers (our beers were in plastic cups, very low key). There were lots of people around, including friends of friends whom I didn't know. One of my buddies sparks up a doob and goes to pass it to one of these "friends of a friend" and the guy asks if it was weed. When my friend replied yes, this dude immediately tells him to put it out and asks if he has any more. He says he's serious..put it out or he'll have my buddy arrested, so out it goes. Dude then proceeds to crush his can of beer, throw it on the ground, and walk away to play frisbee with his friend. Turns out dude was an off duty cop. Apparently it's cool to drink beer out of a can in public, but you can't discreetly smoke a joint. Fuckin jerk. Could you make a bigger deal out of it? Why not just ignore it and stay away? - Thu, 15 Mar 2007 5:04pm
trevor corey User Info... | Nice to see these stories mild so far. There is a guy in one of the dojo's I attend. He is sixty years old. He was born an Armenian Turk. When he was four years old he witnessed the Turkish police boot kick in his Uncle's front door, drag him out into the street and shoot him dead. I never ever get pulled over, unless I have any of my Indian buddies with me. Oooops sorry, did I say "Indian"? I meant to say Aboriginal, first nations, first peoples, native North Americans. - Thu, 15 Mar 2007 5:43pm Edited: Thu, 15 Mar 2007 6:05pm

beazlbub User Info... | ya i worked downtown as a security guard for over a year and witnessed so much bullshit from the cops and my fellow security guards that i became desperate to get out before someone decided to do me in just because i wore a uniform. it became evident my way of dealing with homeless and drug addicts was not what the city or our police force seemed to want ,i chose to treat all with respect and chose not to call police because of the things i witnessed over the years.even tho i may look like a dirtbag ,i have no criminal record and have always tried to treat ppl with respect but man the cops and security guards of victoria just seem to think brute force ,verbal and physical abuse of ppl is the way to go. hell i was helping this guy up off the middle of johnson street in the early morning and as i helped him over to the open door two cops drove up and told me i should just have left the guy lying there and either he would get up or someone would eventually run him over and he would be one less problem... wtf? is that what our tax dollers pay for? a police force that thinks its easier to let these ppl die on the street rather than try and help ? its funny how they are willing to take down some skinny little drug user with brute force but the real nasty drug dealers who drive thru town in their fancy cars who prey on the weak minded just get ignored because its too much work .the things i witnessed and stuff i had been told during my time downtown just opened my eyes and made me realise that unless something gets done we are gonna be in a whole lot of trouble in the later years as our police and security forces grow . i can sit here and put down soo many nasty things i have seen in just a year but it would take up way too much space and im too tired to type anymore. yes we do have some good police and security officers but there are soo many assholes and jerks its hard to see the good ones . - Fri, 16 Mar 2007 6:09am Edited: Fri, 16 Mar 2007 6:14am
Mofo User Info... | When I was like 15 or so I was at this hotel and I was playing strip poker with these chicks and lets just say I lost, not minutes later the door busts open and there I am butt naked with a gun pointed to my head (after I had been THASHED to the floor with a few fists) lying on my stomach...only wondering WTF just happend.... Apparently someone in the next room had thought that my room had a gun so yeah thats my worst experience with the Popo.. I KNOW that police brutailty exists I don't question that, what I question is that fuckin protest that happend in Van the other day where these idiots were going out having a demonstration (which they have a RIGHT TO) where they did NOTHING but make them selves look like criminals themselves by throwing bottles at cops, and doing everything in their power to entice the cops into laying some beats down on them... What is with that shit? - Fri, 16 Mar 2007 3:37pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | If it wasn't for the Police/Fire Department/Ambulance, I would of been a dead man, or a lot worse then I am. I wish they had gotten there sooner, I hate being disabled at times. - Fri, 16 Mar 2007 4:18pm
kyle User Info... | This one's for jackass- apparently beer is legal and pot isn't. So whether the cop was off duty or not, he was just doing his job. Calling cops fascists for telling people to shut up or move along for drinking/stoning in public is fucking lame. Whether you agree or not, the cops are there for the benefit of the public. Getting your weed or booze confiscated sucks, but it's really not that hard to use a little foresight and drink or smoke in a place you aren't going to get busted. Sounds a lot better than having those evil fascists harsh your mellow when all you were trying to do was take a leak on the grass in Beacon Hill Park or decorate the sidewalks downtown with neato broken bottle glass. - Sat, 17 Mar 2007 3:27pm Edited: Sat, 17 Mar 2007 3:29pm
butterflies in my eyes User Info... | ok.... my boyfriend has an N on his car, he has been pulled over a few times for nothing....the only reason they gave him was that he looks suspicious, this one time they searched his whole car, for what reason?,,,the funny thing is he had a shaved head, drove a old celica , and kinda looks like a thug....but takes care of elderly people for a living! maybe if the cops knew that they would have left him alone! but they seem to go by looks. and cars......my brother used to get pulled over all the time too.... he had really long hair and a suped up NOVA!....... i have never been pulled over in my cavalier!!!! - Mon, 26 Mar 2007 11:29am
Tim-Bitchfork User Info... | I completely agree, and I think cops pick on teens more because of suspicion and because they don't think we know the laws. well I majored in Law in school and what people need to tell cops is that suspicion isn't a warrant! The cops do in fact have the right to pull random cars over, because you are licensed to drive, they are allowed to check that you have that. What they CANNOT do and often WILL DO is search your car without a Warrant or Reasonable Probable Grounds. If they can see nothing illegal in sight from outside the car, and have no REASONABLE reason to expect illegal weapons or drugs, which cannot include suspicion, they can't legally search you. I actually benefited from this once, me and my friends were searched by a cop without even warning, like he walked up to me, and put his hands in my pockets. I asked him why this was happening and if he had any right to do this. He then found some weed on me, I told him what he found is worthless due to an illegal search and I wasn't charged because he knew it was a waste of his time. Just a thought.. - Fri, 30 Mar 2007 11:29am
Mace User Info... | Here's one for takers.. Bunch of Good Ol' Boys started rasslin' with a couple of other Good Ol' Boys, the one Good Ol' Boy says something to the other Good Ol' Boyz (to calm the Good Ol' Boyz), then one of the Good Ol' Boys makes a move in front of his girlfriend to show off; then the Other Good Ol' Boys are standin' 'round just drinkin' beer, then the one Good Ol' Boy, takes some pepper spray and spray other Good Ol' Boy, and then start bein' rassled by the Good Ol' Boy, Man, then somebodies tries to step in then they gets ruffed up too... Man, those Good Ol' Boys sure ain't what it t'aint, and it sure as HELL t'ain't what it is supposed to be... (I read the local article in Merrit- and alls well that ends well, turns out, that 'One of the Good Ol' Boys was convicted and One of the other Good Ol' Boys gets let off..') The Prov. NDP will tells ya! They're ain't no more wearing of dese' colours in da' bars 'round town..' (But we'll hafta' see..) Now, maybe if the NDP could stop some of them 'burka' wearing freak shows- the same thing whens they iz playin' in tournements!?!? Defiler Productions User Info... | Best thing: just chill, keep out of their faces, keep your mouth shut unless asked other wise and then show good mentality and they will soon go away. Trying to test their intellance or just being a bad ass mouthpiece only causes a whole new problem. Unfortunately most trouble starts because you are pissed and have a high regard of being an asshole and yes this gets their back up too. Trying to challenge them in that sassy old way just makes an immediate barrier between you and them and then the trouble starts to esculate. - Sun, 1 Apr 2007 7:04pm
