Message Board > General Chitchat > debt repayment doesn't benefit Canadians |
Dr. Fuse User Info... | Our government has just announced a $1 billion cut to cultural programs (AKA, FACTOR, MITAP, etc), this time mostly hitting museums. More are sure to follow. The sourest aspect to this bitter pill is they also announced a $13 billion surplus! THere is an interesting argument that a balanced budget is sufficient to handle debt. Extra payments only speed up repayment by a few years. And the ensuing cuts to society mean there will be a negative effect on consumer spending, meaning debt repayment actually hurts the economy, in ways relevent to you and me. Check out: The Vanishing Efficiency Gains of Debt Repayment is available on the CCPA web site at http://www.policyalternatives.ca http://www.policyalternatives.ca/Reports/2005/11/DebtRepayment/index.cfm?pa=D97539BD Make no mistake, the Canadian Indie music scene will suffer under these kinds of neo-conservative (ie, take money from you and put it in oil baron's and bank exec's pockets) policies. Those of you on this, muchos gracias. Unorganized punks, GET ORGANIZED. - Tue, 26 Sep 2006 7:07pm Edited: Tue, 26 Sep 2006 7:08pm | ||
