_Griphin_ User Info... | Apparently RG Properties is taking forever to finish the arena, at least according to the Chek-6 news. The reason there taking forever to finish the work? Lack of complaints apparently. Although I'm laughing about this... Perhaps people should complain about it, just for something to do. - Fri, 26 Aug 2005 5:05pm
alcoholly User Info... | what's that? People in Victoria AREN'T complaining about something? Well, hell then must certainly have frozen over!! - Fri, 26 Aug 2005 6:55pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | Perhaps RG Properties is getting tons of complaints and there not keeping track of it. The one thing I didn't want to have happen did happen, and the arena became a taxpayers funded building. So if that's the case, I want the restaurant finished, damnit!!! - Sat, 27 Aug 2005 1:08am
lonemonk User Info... | You havent been reading Monday mag for the last two years Griph? Russ Francis has been writing about nothing else. Henderson almost got kicked off the Salmon Kings discussion group for ctiticism of RG properties. Its as close as Victoria gets to a fiasco. - Sun, 28 Aug 2005 11:05am
Zod User Info... | Are their stipulations in the contract that the city gets breaks if they weren't done in time? I really hope the city didn't pay for it all in advance, so they hold some back for all these fuck ups. I read in the TC today that alot of contractors didn't get paid, sitting somewhere around the 2.5 million mark, and leins were taken against RG and the city. If they were hired under RG, how can they put a lien against the city? Thats BS. maybe this, going with the lowest bidder BS, is BS. These companies can rarely do as promised. I think you've got to start holding onto chunks of the price and only pay upon timely completion. That way if they don't, you'll get a nice discount, or be able to payoff unpaid contractors. - Sun, 28 Aug 2005 1:54pm
The One After Two User Info... | I want them to get better condiment stands. Its shameful how lame the hot-dog stands are. Thats a fact. No onions... fried or even raw. No sauerkraut (or however you spell it), what is this, Africa? If I'm dropping $3.50 on a dog, it better deliver. Packets of relish... thats bush league. Oh wait, thats what the Salmon Kings are. - Sun, 28 Aug 2005 4:16pm
alcoholly User Info... | you can't have a hot dog without onions dammit! - Sun, 28 Aug 2005 6:19pm
lonemonk User Info... | Hey Zod. There were some hold-backs and supposed penalities for late completetion. But obviously RG just doesn't pay legitimate contracts and instead uses that money for penalties or something. Or they're not paying EITHER of those. There were some pretty serious rumours of collusion between the mayor of victoria and RG, but I don't have any specific information on that. I've heard some other nasty stuff about many RG building projects going exactly the same way. Lots of overruns, failing to pay sub-contractors, subsequent bankruptcy and freedom from debt.... If I'm not mistaken, the leins on the city are because it actually owns the property. It was obvious that city hall would do whatever it takes to get this arena, and I guess thats what they're doing now (ie. whatever it takes). Big business is rife with this kind of bullshit. If we did our jobs as poorly we'd be fired in a nanosecond, meanwhile you can develop a major structure and fuck it up good and proper and still have your shirt at the end of the day. Its all about who you know, and how well you pay your lawyer(s) for advice. . . - Mon, 29 Aug 2005 8:39am
