Event Description

NEUZTEC is celebrating growing symbiosis of technology and multimedia including experimental sound design, theatrical arts, electroacoustic, video, noise, drone, ambient, electronica, post-rock, improvisational jazz, cinematic interpretations, and modular synthesis.

JOIN US FOR THE FIRST NIGHT OF THE 8TH EDITION OF NEUZTEC ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 24th AT WOOD HALL (900 JOHNSON ST)

7:00PM SNAILBIRDFISH (Salt Spring Island)

SNaiLBiRDFiSH is a polyrhythmic exploration of sound from natural and synthesized landscapes in a multimedia experience some may have dreamt of but never seen before. SNailBiRDFiSH is a 20-year revolving member project of WiL Shulba based on a hybrid of Ableton Live, electro-acoustic instrumentation, and modular synthesis, taking inspiration from the wilds of the pacific northwest and turn of the millennium era Scandinavian fusion-jazz and post-rock.

7:45PM MILK FANGS (Seattle/Victoria)

MILK FANGS are Tobias Dunn-Krahn and Michael Zak, OG Victorians who have been making music together in various capacities and locales for more than two decades. Their discography spans a few genres, but these days they favour electronic hardware to craft left-field bangers and experimental pop music.

8:15PM NEVAR (Victoria)

NEVAR is a new collaborative project between media artists LES666 (Bonnie Doon), David Parfit (Monkey C), Willow Sereda-Michel, and Daniel Taggart-Hodge (The Sky Lit Up) - a quadraphonic installation and live performance experience. Combining synths, hard wired acoustic experiments, generative sound, with interactive projections and sculptures, Nevar uses samples and foley to create an emotional musical journey of discovery and illusion, eliciting whimsy and wonder.

9:00PM DEEP FIELD ARRAY (Vancouver)

In the year 2014, a resonance was born in the echo chamber of existence — Deep Field Array. A Vancouver-birthed experimental ambient duo, they are not just a terrestrial phenomenon, but entities that float in the nebulous abyss of the universe's silent theatre. An abandoned array, a phantom of antiquated technology sailing through the void, siphoning the spectral whispers of lost transmissions. Their compositions, like cryptic messages in interstellar bottles, are punctuated by looping pulses and static — remnants of forgotten conversations whispered across the universe. Its sound, a perplexing brocade with threads rumored to be the spectral echoes of SETI field recordings, exists in a realm of ambiguity as vast as the space between galaxies. This spectral narrative, a haunting sonic folk tale, shrouds their creations in an enigma. Deep Field Array is not a mere spectator. They are an astral lighthouse adrift in the sea of the universe, a beacon pulsating with the rhythm of the universe's ballet. In their collection, analysis, and rebroadcast of these universal murmurs, they weave a sonic mythos that thrums on the resonant strings of their cosmic lyre. They are a solitary note in the symphony of existence, a sonic echo of distant celestial bodies, resonating with the silent hymn of the universe.

$20 at the door (no person turned away for lack of funds).
