Event Description
HYPATIA- Victoria's own
Creative Women's Jazz Orchestra
directed by
LORAE FARRELL presents
New York Jazz Vocal Recording Artist
JUNE KATZ
with Juno Award Winning jazz pianist and
National Jazz Award - 2008's Instrumentalist of the Year
ROSS TAGGART
in a sensual and romantic evening of music inspired by the incomparable Lady Day- Billie Holiday
Hypatia, June and Ross will joined with a stellar string section led by viola artist, DONNA WILLIAMS to perform rare transcriptions transcribed and conducted by HUGH FRASER of Billie Holiday's last great recording, Lady in Satin, arranged by the incomparable, Ray Ellis.
Hot off their sizzling summer presentation of the music of Earth Wind & Fire, Hypatia and guests slips into the fall with the intensely personal moods and evocative imagery that June Katz is famous for.
This will also be a celebration of the CD release of June's first vinyl album "Shinny Stockings" that was released 25 years ago to rave reviews. This album included some of the first arranging and trombone artistry of Hugh Fraser so it will be a joy to connect the lush pallet of Billie Holiday's orchestra arrangements, June Katz's magic (this is her first appearance in Victoria in almost two decades and Hypatia's ever expanding artistry in their original offerings.
This will prove to be a rare romantic evening of artistry that will herald in the autumn by filling the hearts of the musicians and audience alike with the warmth of love that this amazing orchestra with strings and award winning guests will offer.
Hope to see you there!
