Well boys and girls, our heads are still spinning but here's the outline.

2 weeks ago or so I'm sure you all remember that the Mayor of Victoria reported that we were closed. We weren't. We did however have an electrical inspection (and a fire inspection back in December) and there were a number of infractions that had to be dealt with. We have a very extensive commercial lease of course and work had to be divided between the owner of the building and the business leasing the premises (SoundGarden) according to the terms set out in our lease. We followed the rules, hired a contractor and began the work we could do ourselves (such as removing some extension cords and power bars that were not approved for use in a commercial space). At the same time, a second contractor was hired by the building owner for work including the exit signs and main breaker shutdown as stated in the TC article.
Yes our contractor decided not to complete the work - he has that choice. It was a messy situation to get in the middle of and I ran across a number of contractors who refused to take on the job. He did not however cancel due to non-payment - and we are looking into where that information came from. On thursday morning our original contractor cancelled his permit and by thursday early afternoon I had hired a new contractor, he had taken out a permit and started work fixing the wiring inside the bar. All hazardous wiring was either disconnected or made safe by 7pm Thursday night (and I find it interesting that the TC omitted the conversation the reporter had with my contractor regarding the nature of the work and the progress being made). Friday morning minor touch ups were done and Friday afternoon the city electrical inspector signed off on our work thus completing our permit and our end of the deal.
This was not sufficient however, and the power remains off in the building. All the work left to be done is not the responsibility of SoundGarden or its agents and the timeline for these repairs is beyond the scope of our knowledge.
We are stuck in the middle here and it is unfortunate. In these kinds of situations it is often the tenants who get blamed because we are the ones who have names and faces. Very few people even know who owns the building so it's easier to point the finger at us. It is also us that has to suffer with lost business because of this. It is our responsibility to get information to the parties who are in charge of maintenence and repair and we did this.
At this time we are closed pending approved and inspected work in the building. All shows in the immediate future are currently postponed, we do however have contingency plans so don't count us out just yet!
Thanks so much to everyone who has been strong and supportive throughout this ordeal. This has been a very trying time and without your encouragement and words of wisdom it would have been impossible. The biggest thank you's to my staff - the best staff a girl could have - and of course to John and Lou Lou - my rock and dear friends, for your patience and positive attitude and so much more...Scott, Jaden and I miss you already :(
We aren't gone yet - we aren't going to go without a fight. The baby is older now and this 'hippie' is a very angry, persistent and determined individual.
Don't believe everything you read, none of what you hear and only half of what you see.

STOP IT!!! For Christ's sake!
Will you people STOP bashing Tamara and Scott.
It's getting REALLY petty and it's really starting to get a REVOLTING and WAY TOO personal.

GROW UP!!!!

They are a young couple who wanted to open up a club that offers their peers a great venue for local bands to play, great live music and a great place to enjoy themselves. Perhaps they were lacking a little in business experience when they opened up. But I can bet that they've learned a whole lot in the past month!
Most of what happened was beyond their control and they just got caught in the middle.
People don't go into this kind of business to screw everyone over. They were giving you all something special - while dipping into their pockets in a major way to do it!

GIVE THEM A BREAK!!!

You twerps have no idea of what they are going through right now! I don't know either of them and have never been to Soundgarden (yet) but I can tell you this is a really traumatic time for them. It's what nervous breakdowns and health issues are made of! THE LAST THING THEY NEED IS INSINUATIONS ABOUT THEIR RELATIONSHIP!

They are sorting it out and once they are back on their feet. I hope they ban all you idiots! Soundgarden will benefit big time then! - Tue, 18 Mar 2003 5:29pm

... sounds like you DO know them. Great idea, ban people from coming to their bar YOU"RE BRILLIANT, fuckhead. - Tue, 18 Mar 2003 5:52pm
XY-SATAN Long live Soundgarden !

Slagging people and correcting spelling mistakes is what allot of trolls (anonymous dick wads) do on here instead of having civil conservations and making constructive threads , but the powers that be like an open forum or refuse to install proper tools to kick these fucks to the curb . Soon people stop coming to post because of incessant attacks and anonymous (cowardice) cut down but what the fuck do I know .

I should say I dont see allot of slagging going on in the above thread . - Tue, 18 Mar 2003 6:03pm
Anonymous You know, I have to say on behalf of all the sarcastic bitches out there - there's nothing wrong with being a sarcastic bitch especially when you're in a business full of assholes who think they run the world!!!!
You know I think that there is a support group for us bitchez, c'mon there's gotta be. Do I need help? Do you?
Should we start an infomercial?
Maybe if we paid MORE attention to a couple of kids who haven't done anything bad to anyone we could all learn. How bout we post about it? How about we waste some more time talking and speculating about it? How bout we all just get a fucking life and mind our own fucking business eh?
Jesus, you would think we all had some real concern for these two the way we sensationalize them...fucking-tabloid buying-rumour-spreading-bad-news-mongering-vulture-loving-internet-addicted-attention-deprived-parasites.
Gotta luv ya. - Tue, 18 Mar 2003 6:35pm

SweetGrass I have played SoundGarden and really hope all is resolved so this venue is available to all of us in the future. Curious, would Tamara be a bitch if she were fighting for her business as a man? - Tue, 18 Mar 2003 7:05pm
Anonymous Nope she would be an asshole then =+) - Tue, 18 Mar 2003 8:59pm
slackerly i shudder to think of a our city without soundgarden. next to thursdays pub they provided excellent venue to hear live music. i for one hope that they can keep on keepin on and get through all this bullshit and open thier doors again soon.

as for everybody who is slagging scott or tamara, may you spend eternity rotting in the lifeless pits called Barvic and legends.grasping for your personal identity only to be beaten upby steriod taking, ghb dropping, gotta look like everyone else, shitty bouncers. - Tue, 18 Mar 2003 9:43pm
Hungry Hungry Hippy Has your life really changed all that much since the soungarden shut down... let's be reasonable here.

It's not like we got our supply of fresh water cut off, a bar closed down. - Wed, 19 Mar 2003 1:04am

Soundgarden, I believe has become kind of like a "Cheers" for a lot of us. I always know that I'll run into somebody I know and guaranteed I'll have a good time.
It's a great place that hosts live music every week. If you're really into music nothing compares to going out and seeing a live performance.
I just don't why you negative ones out there can't just be quiet. So ya don't like it... Hmmmmm don't go. Why take the time to bitch about it? Go to the place that makes you happy and I'll hopefully go back to the place that makes me happy. - Wed, 19 Mar 2003 1:19am
Anonymous OKAY - so it's "just a bar closing".....
But it's also one less venue for live music in a city where there's very few choices - it's another dent in the suffering, local music scene! - Wed, 19 Mar 2003 10:24am
ML7Mike SG kicks ass... Funny, if so many people "hate" it so much, than why is it often very full of happy people? My bet is that it is one or two of the same freindless, nameless losers that come here and hack the place on the board.. best of luck Tamara, Scott, and the rest of the staff.. - Wed, 19 Mar 2003 12:30pm
