Hey,

I just listened to Sonata Arctica's 5th studio album called Unia. It is the first album not to feature an epic scene of wolves and such, the cover kinda sucks really. They have taken a bit of a different direction, their power metal style has matured and became more defined. They no longer sound like a Stratovarius clone like back in the Ecliptica and Silence days, which was fucking awesome too don't get me wrong Strato is my other fav power metal band. This album has a less 'fast and happy" power metal style and more of a Queen kinda operatic sound, much more experimental, a buddy even said more Dream Theater like. If you've heard their last album Reckoning Night you can kinda see what their doing in Unia in White Pearl, Black Oceans really epic. I think Henrik the keyboardist is noticeably better, or at least has parts that are just him doing cool shit instead of him doing cool shit in time with the guitarist, which is fucking rad, especially live. His key parts just sound better and are more interesting and creative. It does have some sappy ballads in traditional fashion, but somehow they seem less gay and are more interesting somehow, not quite as predictable almost.

My favorite song was easily "My Dream's But a Drop of Fuel for a Nightmare" a 6 minute long masterpiece with one of the most killer breakdowns in the middle i have ever heard in power metal. I think this is the most musically impressive song they've made. Tony sings about random ass shit that happens in dreams, you better hear this one. Also The Harvest, Caleb, The Vice and It Won't Fade were awesome. The others were good but didn't really stick out as much to me. This album took a LONG time to grow on me, I actually hated it at first but started to pick up what they were laying down so to speak. I'd recommend it at least to the power metal crowd, I loved it at least.
