Over the past few weeks, Canadian TV networks have showed -- almost daily - the sad pictures of families mourning the return of their deceased loved ones, our Canadian soldiers killed while on combat missions in Afghanistan. As I write, the news headlines announce yet another death; regrettably, it will not be the last. Amid these mounting losses, however, the Conservative government in Ottawa still maintains that Canada is not officially at war. Really?? Everything else indicates that Canada is indeed at war, regardless of what the PM's office calls it. And, as in all other wars, the Conservatives (and some Liberals) are working to keep Canadians' morale high and maintain their support of our military involvements in Afghanistan at all costs. He sees the innocent tortured and killed by their own people and remembers why he is fighting. __________________________ You hear the jokes about the war, and make fun of men like him. He hears the gunfire, bombs and screams of the wounded. __________________________ You see only what the media wants you to see. He sees the broken bodies lying around him. __________________________ You are asked to go to the store by your parents. You don't. He does exactly what he is told. __________________________ You stay at home and watch TV. He takes whatever time he is given to call, write home, sleep, and eat. __________________________ You crawl into your soft bed, with down pillows, and get comfortable. He crawls under a tank for shade and a 5 minute nap, only to be woken by gunfire. __________________________ You sit there and judge him, saying the world is probably a worse place because of men like him. If only there were more men like him! | lonemonk User Info... | Hell, I support the troups; Stepdad spent time in the Golan heights and Cyprus I do not however support the assholes who sent them to Afghanistan! Even in the heat of the moment after sept 11, this mission never registered with me as having any value whatever. I don't believe the people of Afghanistan to be any safer than they were. And I KNOW our boys (and girls) aren't safer. The way that shit is going we'll be there for a couple of decades with a few thousand loses. | Mace User Info... | Even though, the troops were sent in by the then, Federal Lib's. (prolly the only thing worth crediting the Liver-lovers, and maybe Haiti...) well, the Canadian Troops goal is to help in the rebuilding of Afghanistan, this time of the year is especially dangerous, the cooling off months are during the fall and winter, till spring, in which afterwards the Taliban goes about their terrorist campaign as per usual. There was a Taliban Leader (about 4 months ago) who wanted to lay out a peace offer, that was to end all the figthing and attacks on the public and Coallition Forces. Many who join the Taliban are outsiders from other attached countries- who join in the name of their vicious cycle to destroy, those who seek a harmonious balance of stability in the regions.Problem seems to be as it always has from the start of the Afghistan Affair, is that these borders are virtually wide open to anyone who wants to enter. This is ofn, to you, I'm sure. Only, the 'Infidels' are the ones who will suffer, and inadvertantly as a result of the mentality of the Taliban, and tragically, they will eventually, lose, to something that has wound its' way through the ranks of the Grand Narrative of Politics since the start of Socrates own sacrafice in being the first martyr, all in the name of Democracy and Capitalism. (It's all in the big book, n' I'm not talking about the Bible neither...'The Grand Narrative of Modern Western Civilization') Estimating that inevitably, places like Iran, or who side with Iran- will be nuked from the face of the planet within the next 5 years. Who will back this nuclear war you may ask, well, not the anti-war advocates, that's for damn sure, you can call up Nostradameus your psychic connection will tell you! (And I'm sayin' he wasn't too far off.) He77!? I'm thinkin' that might even be President G.W. Bush's last statement; as Leader of the U.S.A., he went into Office with a loud bang, what makes anyone think that he'll leave without making one. (Unless the U.S. Senate Ratifies a bill limiting a single President to only [2] four year terms.) Just as Truman did, to end WWII, what would prevent the U.S. otherwise to saving lives of it's own citizens, even if it entails, killing hundreds of countless thousands of others to do just that? Remember Canadu, and the Reactors which by all that's been told; was sold to Pakistan, by Canadians, oh, and in~ India to.
