Hello.

I have been working on a concept for a new project which to alot of people will seem too strange and I am hoping to find creative, open minded people to work on a "post rap" project.
The idea is basically combining rap music with the elements of post rock and shoegazer/space rock. So think super long epic songs, with the whole band singing like a choir, and twanging guitars, and some french horn and tuba and strings....with the occasional break for rappers to take the mic.
so i need really open minded rappers and open minded musicians who are interested in trying something more or less original. anyone who thinks they have something to bring to the table may email me or reply here.
thanks for your interest.

holla,

i have a guitar player, a tuba player, a musical saw player, and potentially i have bass, drums, and keys. however i'm still interested in anyone who can play these instruments because the fuller the sound the better.

what i really need are rappers and strings. if you want a better idea of my project think like this:

take a godspeed you black emperor song
most godspeed songs start slow and droney...build to a huge chaotic freak out post rock epic explosion of awesomeness...then work band down to a slow droney outro...
our music would follow this formulae except in the slow parts we would have a bit of a funky beat and we'd have rappers rap. it would still lead to the huge explosion of epic freakout and there would be no rapping in this part of the song...however at the start and sometimes the end there would be rapping.

so if you can rhyme and are open minded to trying something new...talk to me.
and if you play strings and have an interest in this idea...talk to me
or if you just like this idea and play anything...talk to me...or even if you don't play anything and just want to hit stuff and yell melodically really loud.

Sounds good

You might need to look elsewhere for a wider selection of MCs though, but I'm sure you've got that covered.

How long do you think you'll want to keep this project going for? If it's a short term project, I might be interested in adding some noise.

Thanks - Thu, 2 Jun 2005 3:38pm

hi kris!

you know i'm in. i'll play french horn, cello, boards, and percussion stuff. my marching drum sounds like frickin' gunfire. and we gotta have some glockenspiel if we're going for the godspeed you! black emperor kinda sound.
i should bring in a piper friend of mine to get some serious droning happening.
phil glass ostinatos with strings, horn, and tuba, maybe organ instead of alto sax might be the ticket.
i'll phone that rhymin' bloke to see if he's in. - Fri, 3 Jun 2005 5:13pm

thanks for your interest everyone.
i've had a tremendous response both here and on email.
i think we potentially even found some mcs.
bethany! tell those mc friends of yours that they will probably have to dress up in skeleton wear and paint their faces white with the black lines across their lips.
i have had response from every instrument i was interested in.
glockenspiel would be a nice addition but isn't needed.
i guess now we just have to make this happen.
if you are interested keep it comming. i'm interested in hearing other peoples ideas and what they can bring and everything.

ps. kelly you can be in the band just singing choral occasionally and hitting things if you want. you probably have to dance though. or at least where a weird costume. - Fri, 3 Jun 2005 9:35pm

You should have a maestro. Maybe people who aren't doing much in a song could trade off. Coat tails are a must.

Also, get one of your multi-instrumentalists to add in some digeridoo, wonder how beatboxing into one of those would sound. - Fri, 3 Jun 2005 9:40pm

Dear Kris,
As you already have a drummer I will offer you my hand percussion skills. I can switch it up with some flute and trombone and I do have a glockenspiel although my glockenspieling ability is limited.
This project sounds really rad. - Sun, 5 Jun 2005 9:06am

It's a great concept alright... but whether or not it works will hinge entirely on the quality of your MC's, so don't choose lightly! - Sun, 5 Jun 2005 11:42am
