Mutilashawn User Info... | First track is killer. Brutal crushing blackened death metal. HOWEVER, moving on and the album gets way too bizzare. Akylore this is what I was talking about. Listen to A Skin For Dancing In and then you'll understand what I meant by techno. Oddly placed vocal patterns that dont really fit the music and clean vocals that, while well sung, also dont really fit either. And really bizzare female vocals mixed with fucking trumpet sounds. I dont know maybe its an atmospherical thing but I cant get into it. Maybe Choronzon slays, but this one . . . I dont know. - Thu, 4 Dec 2003 3:24pm

Akylore User Info... | Before I go off, I'll mention that I own 'Goat of Mendes' (it was on my top 10 - replaced by Choronzon of course) so I'm not mistaken as to what's what on this album. 'A Skin for Dancing In' starts off with a weird dark sound effect that does wear that 'techno-ish' effect on people (one of my buddies got that impression too.) I suppose it's more 'electronic' as compared to more symphonic (eg-Emperor) But here we go again with my other point, Emperor's 'Prometheus' has some really weird sound effects, and so does Dimmu's 'Puritanical' at points (track 4 for sure, and track 6 has some BLATANT 'techno-ish' soundscapes, eg-vocals) Plus, 'A Skin for Dancing In' is probably the only song mostly dominated (if you call it that) with techno effects, it starts with that dark effect, and has some keys with some clean vocals during the chorus, "Grant me a skin for dancing in, blahblah..." you can detect the faint "wwwwwoing" sound when they play the eerie guitar lines, but when it goes straight back to heavy they don't fuck around!! I LOVE the clean vocals, I think they fit the song perfectly, but then again, I am a peach, so I don't expect everyone to share my oddities. I suppose this is a 'like it or not' scenerio. Plus the female vocals/trumpets segment is another track (the next one, track 3, 'Between Iniquitatis and Prostigiators') which is what I call a 'mid-tro' (basically not a song, just like how bands have 'intro's to songs, etc.) Lots of bands have 'mid-tro's, it doesn't reflect the actual songs mind you. Choronzon, for example, (no pun intended since it's also the title of the album) is another weird atmospheric soundscape track, but again, it's not a song, so if you don't like it, you have the freedom to skip it. I like listening to the track, mind you, for the simple reason that it always makes me spill a load onto my own balls while thinking about hot nuns showered in Satan's semen, but hey, like I said, I'm a peach so to each their own. Anyways, moving right along, 'Horns of Baphomet' starts a little slow, providing that classic satanascope beforehand only progressing to dish out more black/death metal, "He is risen' starts off with a killer blast beat, David Gray is a very skillful drummer. And yes, Shawn, there is about an approximate 16-secong trumpet part in that whole song, but if you can't handle that, the song is overall brutal just about all the way through. I think the only song I'm not into is 'The Serpent.' that song sounds pretty much the same all the way through. 'Breaking Silence' actually has a bit of a blues-ish feel to one of the riffs, I really dig it. I think you should dig into it some more and listen past the third track. Repeatedly. You shall assimilate!!!! Satan, Satan, SATAN!!!!! (I also love how 3 of the songs end with that....) - Fri, 5 Dec 2003 11:56pm
Mutilashawn User Info... | it's not just the trumpets and whatnot. I just can't get into this album. I dont know what it is. Some parts are crushingly brutal, there is no argument there, its just too odd of an atmosphere for me to dig. By no means am I knocking clean vocals either. to each his own. In my opinion this album isn't bad, it's just not for me. - Sat, 6 Dec 2003 7:34am
