Akylore User Info... | This double-disc set has been out for a few months, and although I picked it up quite some time ago I felt that it required special mention. This band, I have always held in high regard. 'Tara' is probably still one of the best albums out there as far as I'm concerned, and although I wasn't expecting anything as crazy, as this set contains unreleased material, it still did not disappoint. On the contrary, it was refreshing to hear how their sound progressed from the more doom/death feel of V.I.T.R.I.O.L. to the blackened/thrash feel of the following albums. This set has everything: 'The Gold Torques of Ulaid' from the 'Gummo' soundtrack (although I hated that fucking movie,) material before Proscriptor was drumming in the band, live material, unreleased rehearsal meterial, what have you. I was strongly anticipating to hear what the Hallstatian Swords EP would sound like after hearing the 'In the Eyes of Ioldanach' EP, and was pleased to hear that this section is all composed of medieval experimental/darkwave material. The covers of Mayhem's 'Deathcrush' and Iron Maiden's 'Transylvania' are solid. I wasn't as heavy into the live material on it as the sound production was rather raw...but then again after repeated viewings of the Absu DVD's I own, I was expecting to hear more of Proscriptor's wails while DRUMMING AT THE SAME TIME. As I was not introduced to this band as early as others, listeneing to this collection was more of an experience than a 'sentimental' voyage. Still...Proscriptor still claims there will be one more self-titled Absu album out in the future...now that he's not drumming for Melechesh anymore I'll be looking forward to the day of its release! - Thu, 26 Jan 2006 3:59am
A. Angus User Info... | You said it Adrian, that pretty much sums up this great collection. Definately for die-hard Absu fans, rather than casual listeners; contains incredible gems if you do love this band, as I do. If people have never heard Absu, and want to get into them, I would recommend starting at "Barathrum V.I.T.R.I.O.L.", and moving on chronologically from there, as EVERY album dominates the throne of "mythological Occult Metal" equally. - Fri, 27 Jan 2006 4:12pm
