Heather User Info... | Friday November 26th the Victoria BC Ska Society presents a double CD release party for The Dreadnoughts & Hillside Hooligan’s! Joining them are Raised By Apes. Formed in 2006 over pints of cheap beer at East Vancouver's notoriously violent Ivanhoe Hotel, The Dreadnoughts cut their teeth in the roughest dive bars in the city. Hauling a fiddle, an accordion, a mandolin, a tin whistle, guitars and drums into every venue that would... have them, they quickly became known for their powerful, chaotic live performances. In four short years they have slowly but surely joined the ranks of Canada's punk rock elite, bringing their insanely energetic and dangerous live show to the four corners of the globe. The Dreadnoughts aren't just a band; they're an advocacy group, ruthlessly promoting the idea that folk and punk music form a perfect union. They've been literally destroying stages and swilling ciders the world over, spreading their gospel to anyone and everyone who will listen. The Hillside Hooligans were born from the ashes of Victoria BC's favorite delinquent reggae/punk jack asses, One Drop. At that time most of the music makin came to a grinding halt. An attempt was made to piece One Drop back together under a new name with a variation at the old line up but at that time, without the right members, it failed. After that people went their separate ways, Bobby Rozylo and Shane Sodoberg started focusing on their country band "Blood and Whiskey" Leahy was coaching "Brave New Waves" and writing a bunch of tunes. Neville was dabbling in a few different avenues with a couple of projects. At the end of summer 2008 talk started of the upcoming Halloween rager "Nightmare On Durrance" and of course One Drop was mentioned. Leahy hooked Brave New Waves up with the headlining spot at the bash and asked bass player James Vincent Angel if he would be into jamming with the new band, then nameless, and doing a middle spot at the party. After the show jamming ensued until early 09 when "Brave New Waves" had a night at Lucky Bar. Being the railer cats they are the Waves offered the boys the chance to play a bar show. With the show only 5 days away the guys decided on a name and FINALLY "The Hillside Hooligans" were born. With relative ease they slipped back into form and are ready to take on the city and rest of mankind with their rippin new style. Go see them! Sometimes seen in the urban jungles around Hastings and Main in Vancouver we bring punks Raised By Apes to open up this very awesome night! Tickets $10 advance on sale at Lyle’s Place, BC Smoke Shop, Ditch Records, and ticketweb.ca.
