Tyler User Info... | So I thought to myself, "cool, one of my friends is in a band now, I should check that out. some ska bands are playing too I guess. even if combat wombat are kind of.. uh... yeah. I've got nothing else to do. why not?" and I went to little fernwood and checked out good craic first off I got the impression that they don't really play a lot of all ages shows, considering they had this over-the-top elaborate setup. don't get me wrong, I love elaborate setups, they can be so much fun. but they had a smoke machine, a strobe light, and like a stack of coloured lights and stuff. they started off and I knew I wasn't going to like it. it was the kind of thing you'd expect from some older teenagers who have limited songwriting abilities and pretty much rip off all those other already-boring irish-influenced folk rock bands. I know this is said about a lot of genres people aren't familiar with, but every song pretty much sounded the same. Kind of like someone said "okay, let's base our band around THIS chord progression and just change the lyrics up between songs". If only they had taken time out of getting over-the-top lighting for a little venue with not many people, cut down their set time, and tried to maybe practice and improve the music, it could have been passable. This is only a small amount of what bothered me about this band but they would definetely make my list of least enjoyed performances. If there was anything cool about it, it was that the fiddle was playing some inventive riffs and had a pickup that ran through a digital delay pedal. They played like... I don't know... an hour and a half. including an intermission in their own set. and two encores that nobody even really seemed to want them to play. I guess some people were having fun dancing around, they must have tuned the music out. I got the impression they were friends of the band, as were anyone wearing "good craic" shirts. anyway I pretty much couldn't stand being at the show anymore and drove off with a couple friends. - Sat, 17 Jun 2006 2:10am | ||
