rP User Info... | Last night reminded me again of just how much the level of musicianship has gone up in the city over the last few years. I used to see a lot of bands who made me cringe, and now whether I'm into the style or not, it seems like a lot more bands are pulling whatever they're into off well. Str8jakit opened - strong vocals, tight band, lots of presence. The word derivative practically screams out at you with the 90's influenced hard rock/rap sounds. Lots of Faith No More, with some interesting turns. Lots of clean melodic vocals interspersed with aggressive. But man, they did it well, there's no reason why they shouldn't be played on one of those major radio stations who groove on this. Where do these bands come from? They came off really experienced, did well on the stage. opened up the night with a boom for sure. Splatter both charmed and rocked next. Female fronted rock/metal/punk, and woah what a set of pipes on our girl! Lots of attitude, AND lots of fun - whenever I see her I want to hold her up as an example of how to belt it out, command a stage, scare people, and be endearing and personable all at once. Yes, she has got it ALL. Crackwhore's drummer's no slouch in there either, the whole band's got a ton of energy. Last band, Born of Ashes, definately worth seeing, they never fail, young band, great parts, fast and tight and I like this kind of metal/hardcore. Impressed by the drummer's skills and style. I was sick from a 2 week cold, tired and wanted to leave, but this band put out enough that I think I stayed til the very end. - Sun, 8 Feb 2004 9:22pm | ||
