-=PeNgUiN=- User Info... | I thought this show fuckin roked, surprisingly. It was the chance for some new bands to get into the scene, and I always like hearing new music. Pushing Up Daisies were pretty good, playing a sort of Strokes rock sound. Didn't really get the crowd moving, and i find when this band "tries" to go heavy, they sound bad. But on the whole, good performance. This was the first time Hitch has played in Vic i think. They were impressive. They definently kept the crowd moving with some intensive punk songs and some slow melodic stuff too. Good presence and performance. Kincaide was good. They were very heavy for the line-up, but they pulled out some good hardcore tunes. It was their first show too, and quite a good one. These musicians are all definentely very experienced. I thought The Habitat fuckin rocked last nite. They played some heavier rock song, some punk rock tunes, and even a birthday song for some random kid. Fuckin hilarious when they played that I'm Addicted song to some chick. Very good performance. Smallhorse was also good. Good solid rock songs, and they kept the crowd alive for a show that went quite later than scheduled. Good never the less. I'd like to see all these bands again. - Sat, 24 Jan 2004 9:06pm

Colin Sick User Info... | Yeha thanks to everyone who came out and staying till the end for us. We had a great time and look forward to playing on the 7th. If anyone want s any mp3's just add [email protected] to your msn and I will send them over. I missed kincaid but I heard nothing but good things about them. Hitch and The Habitat rocked out the nofx rock like there was no tommorow and Pushing up daisies sounded sweet, very british. - Sun, 25 Jan 2004 5:03am
Demen Ted User Info... | Pushing Up Dasies... First time seeing them, wow, I have heard a few things about them, and I wasnt too excited to see them tonight... Wow, big fucking mistake, they really hit it. Very good stage presence, I thought... Hitch: For their first show, holy fuck and awesome as shit. I'm glad to see they didnt have our bad luck for their first show (forgetting most of the equipment, breaking strings first song, etc etc., haha) Very good job, the crowd really got into it, definitely a band to watch out for in the very near future! Kincaide: Holy carpet of christ... These guys rocked my pants off! It didnt look like the crowd as a whole was that into it, but those who were, you could really tell... Can't wait to check these guys out again! must be one of my favourite vic bands... Habitat: I have heard mixed reviews, and havent checked them out untill now... My god, was that a mistake! I didnt expect them to be half as good as they were. Highlight of the show was either God Bless America (which was written for ME!) Kennys Erection, or the happy birthday song to the little boy. A new fucking train set! Yeah... Good, high energy set, definitely got something going, and can definitely get the crowed going Smallhorse: I found them a little different in this lineup, and my friends weren't really into it, but I thought they rocked! had some good slower tunes, and really gave the show a nice close. If you were: I was the ass munch with the mohawk who kept taking his jacket on and off. Dan Conner - Sun, 25 Jan 2004 5:14am
Guitar Man User Info... | Yea this show was pretty good. Went a little long though. I thought Pushing Up Daisies were a little on the boring side. Nobody seemed that into, and i thought it sounded just like The Strokes ripoff band. Not bad i guess for their second show though. Hitch was pretty good for their first time in Vic. They played some good solid punk songs, and had some neat melodies. Awosme st. presence, and they kinda got the crowd going. I thought Kincaide was good, but a little out of place at a show with Pushing Up Daisies and Smallhorse in it (both slower rock bands). They had some good screamo songs, but not that many people felt it. The Habitat was definently the highlight of my night. They rocked so hard, and were damn funny, especially that birthday song and Kenny's Erection. They were awsome, I'll definently see them again. Smallhorse was pretty good, but for a headlining band, i thought they slowed down the pace too much. I guess that's cause Habitat played right before them, and it was pretty difficult to follow. But they definently had some good songs. Good show. Good on Hitch for getting it together. - Sun, 25 Jan 2004 6:41am
Habitat Ian User Info... | This show was so fun to play at. I love the Garry Oak. Pushing Up Daisies were chill, some wicked retro rock sounded stuff in there. Hitch was awsome, good fast aggresive punk, good stuff for their first show. Kincaide fuckin rocked out hard. Loved their first and last songs. And Smallhorse were an awsome closer, they too had some good st. presence and stuff. This show was definently bitchin. Thanks to everyone who came out. . - Sun, 25 Jan 2004 7:00am
ian too late User Info... | pushing up daisys were awsome...there totally a rocking nyc rock band, and if people say there strokes rip offs one more time i'm gonna freaking slaughter them cuase the strokes sound just like all the other nyc rock bands, so there not ripping of the strokes there just playing that same type of music. hitch were alright they were too loud for what they were playing. i dont know maybe its just me but i like good tone and frankly they were so loud it kinda just sounded funny.... they reminded me a little too much of nofx i mean u can tell that there heavily influenced by them they even covered murder the govt. kincaide i would have really enjoyed kincaide in a different enviroment it wasent really what i was in the mood for that night even though there a solid band..very tight. the habitat were the habitat i've seen/played with them quite a bit and i have to say they never really sound or act any different there young fun and up beat smallhoarse-impressed me to no end. colin is a good guitarist and a good preformer. solid tight drumming, i want his kit it sounded fucking sweet. great tunes, so chill i want to see these guys again. - Sun, 25 Jan 2004 7:41am
Lauren User Info... | The only band worth mentioning is Smallhorse. I haven't been that impressed by a band since...forever. - Sun, 25 Jan 2004 7:48am
eboner User Info... | oh man fun show..the crowd was a little on the smaller side but it was awsome anywyas...all the bands were awsome but i missed pushing up daisies..i realy want to see them though, ive heard lots fo good things. kincaide were by far the best band there. good on the habitat for the birthday song. - Sun, 25 Jan 2004 7:57am
k8 User Info... | Unfortunately I missed the first two sets...was really looking forward to seeing Pushing Up Dasies again, too. Came in just in time for Kincaide, who did not disappoint. The only downside of their set was the longish wait in between songs, & the crowd wasn't too into it. I would definitely pay to see these guys headline, though, they have an awesome sound & good stage presense. The Habitat were excellent, as usual. This was probably the loosest I've ever seen them before, which I would imagine was something to do with their new guitarist not knowing most of the songs, but he ripped out some nice solos at some points...although his amp was too low to really hear it. God Bless America was great, as always, and the birthday song was hilarious. The new song (Kenny's Erection) is a lot heavier than most of their stuff, and very tight especially considering how relatively new it is. They had the best stage presence of the night, I think. Smallhorse were decent, although I think that for a show with them headlining could have had a different line up, as they really slowed down the pace from The Habitat's set. But they were solid & lots of fun, nonetheless. Their sound really hit all over the place, & I loved that 80s cover they played. All in all, even the three bands were worth paying $5 for. Hell, I'd have paid more than that. Very fun night. - Sun, 25 Jan 2004 8:24am
Blackjack User Info... | Wow, Oakfest rocked! I was totally impressed with Hitch's intensity and ability to get things moving. Unfortunately I missed out on Kincaide (who I was really looking forward to) because I had to man the door, but what I heard was pretty good. Definately the top of the evening was Smallhorse for me. The parts were all so intricate and amazing. It was awesome to just close my eyes and listen to the guitars battling back and forth, the bass driving heavily underneath it all, and the clean drum sound just beat it all in place. Bloody brilliant! - Sun, 25 Jan 2004 8:56am
salt User Info... | -pushing up daisies--would it be overly critical of me to suggest that you shorten your name to daisies? I did enjoy their set though :) -hitch--I'd like it more if they turned it down a little. but twas good. -kincaide--thumbs up, but I wasn't in the mood. hopefully I'll get to see them again when I am. -habitat--yay graeme! (or graham??) -smallhorse--oh oh! they got me. I'm hooked. a nice night for a show at the ever-fun garry oak room with happy kids and smiling bands. - Sun, 25 Jan 2004 9:16am
ScottL User Info... | Haha salt, thats a good one, not overly critical, but just remember, there are bands like, And you will know us by the trail of dead around! Anyway, i absolutly enjoyed the show Hitch was indeed a little loud, that line6 stack pounded though. Good times Kincaide was amazing, but the singer needed to pull back from the mic during yells, just some mic technique stuff, but i was at the door for most of the set... so the sound may have been wierd. The habitat had a good show, i was in and out manning the door so i didn't get the full efect. too bad graham had only been with them a short time, but even with 1 and a half guitarists they had a full sound, good luck graham! smallhorse was just unreal. Oh man you don't even know, i just loved it man, damn fine stuff you guys have and i can't wait for the 7th. The show was well attended and everyone seemed happy, had to be one the the best shows i have been to in a while!! - Sun, 25 Jan 2004 9:40am
hitchmusic User Info... | Thanx everyone for coming out. It was a lot of fun. We made enuff money to pay the venue, pay the soundguy, and pay the bands a bit of cash. I had a lot of fun. Love, xHITCHx - Sun, 25 Jan 2004 9:48am
Muhammid User Info... | Damn i wish i had made it to this one. Oh well i suppose there's always Feb.3. Keep me posted Ian and good luck Graeme. - Sun, 25 Jan 2004 10:25am
no.breath User Info... | FUN! Good fun show. Pushing Up Daisies: ....what ian too late said. Good shit coming from these guys. I really liked a couple of their songs, but some of them....really sucked. Hitch: Too loud man. Good pop punk nevertheless. Kincaid: Music was good, would have liked to maybe hear a RAGE cover, that woulda been fun. Didn't like how the singer never faced the audience, but fucking intense shit man. Habitat: Good show, way better than I've seen them before. The Birthday song, or whatever they call it was by far their best song. That little kid was the highlight of my night. Smallhorse: I don't know what all the fuss is about. I thought that they where good, but nothing special. I really liked one of their songs, but otherwise, i didn't find any of it that good. good show, good proce, good music. Bottom line. --{-(X)-}-- - Sun, 25 Jan 2004 10:29am
Colin Sick User Info... | well thanks for all the love ! - Sun, 25 Jan 2004 10:44am
Skinny User Info... | Pushing Up Daisies, you guys rock. Always a fun act to watch, and to listen to. Keep up the good work. To be entirely honest, I wasn't a huge fan of Hitch. It coulda been the volume or just the type of music they were playing, but it all just sounded like really loud white noise. The System of a Down cover was pretty sweet, the music was spot on. Kincaide was awesome. No complaints here. To be honest, I don't even know what it was I liked about these guys, I just REALLY liked them. Habitat. Ooooh boy, here we go. As much I wanna say that I really liked them (because I know the guys a little bit and they're cool), I'm not particularly keen on this band. The music sounds pretty good, but the vocals are a little....piercing. Sorry guys. I liked Smallhorse a lot. Their music was a bit of a change of pace from the other bands of the night, and they were fun to watch. Overall, a great show! - Sun, 25 Jan 2004 10:45am
KnifeGhost User Info... | Smallhorse are one of the new locals bands I'm most excited about..... Well, probably the new local band I'm _most_ excited about, besides, maybe, The Poppies... But I have to be excited for them, I'm their fucking guitarist.... Smallhorse rocks, and the 7th will own..... - Sun, 25 Jan 2004 10:53am
Ben Godfrey User Info... | i'm happy to hear all these awesome reviews for smallhorse....and the other bands. For the poeple who enjoyed smallhorse's set, i'd like to see you at our next show, and invite all your friends!!! - Sun, 25 Jan 2004 11:48am
Man of Fate User Info... | I gotta disagree with Skinny. I thought the Habitat had the best vocalist of the night. The guy who plays guitar in that band sounds kinda british, but he was hella good. I don't know about the other, pretty good. I thought Pushing Up Daisies were boring as hell. Tried to stay awake. Actually, Hitch woke me up, a little too much, hella loud, but good and aggresive. Kincaide had too much screaming, and when the singer screamed, he held his mic way too close. Habitat was pretty damn funny. Not as tight as I've seen them before (probably because of the new guitarist), but they put on the best set of the night. Smallhorse was mediocre at best. I don't see the big deal about them, not that great, I wouldn't see them again. - Sun, 25 Jan 2004 11:55am
DaNnY-p User Info... | i didn't get to see Pushing up daisies but heard they were a good chillin band which is always good!! Hitch was a awsome band always like listening to there technical punk music!!! got the crowd moving for sure!! Kincaid were awsome had a killer sound just didnt think they fit in to well with this show. the Habitat were fairly decent for the first time seeing them i thought they wernt bad i feel bad for there guitarist cause for most of there set i saw he looked so confused and the vocals were a tad on the high side but other then that good sound!! then Smallhorse wasn't really my thing not to into them they were talented musicans just not the type of music im into.. this show was definatly good show and worth all 5 dollars it went for all the bands sounded pretty tight.. DANNY-P - Sun, 25 Jan 2004 1:04pm
--{-(X)-}-- User Info... | don't worry colin, i thought you guys where alright, i mean i was in there and everything, but i didn't think smallhorse 'stood out' or anything. Good musicians, and i wouldn't hesitate to see you guys again if you where opening for a band that i liked. Cool music, keep it up. - Sun, 25 Jan 2004 1:12pm
Lauren User Info... | There seems to be some confusion. The Habitat's vocalist cannot sing. I think someone compared him to the voice of the Hamster Dance. High pitched, annoying and irrelevant. ps. woohoo for smallhorse. they're one of the only bands who can make me smile from the beginning of their set to the end. - Sun, 25 Jan 2004 1:34pm

Amazing Creep User Info... | I was less than impressed by Habitat. I grew out off that crap a long time ago. Smallhorse, however. They're who I paid to see. I will pay to see them again, Feb. 7 at the Multicultural Centre. Contact [email protected] for more info. - Sun, 25 Jan 2004 6:22pm

--{-(X)-}-- User Info... | smallhorse posted this under their name in the band section of livevic: what fans of THE HABITAT have to say about smallhorse "Smallhorse was mediocre at best. I don't see the big deal about them, not that great, I wouldn't see them again. - Sun, 25 Jan 11:55am " "Smallhorse: I don't know what all the fuss is about. I thought that they where good, but nothing special. I really liked one of their songs, but otherwise, i didn't find any of it that good." hahahahahaha! Sweet, thats the first time someone's quoted me! Thanks Smallhorse. P.S I don't hate you guys, maybe you misunderstood me. Your Pal Alky User Info... | Hey isn't Aiden the dude who was all over the Habitat's lead singer at one of their shows awhile back? - Mon, 26 Jan 2004 8:21am
--{-(X)-}-- User Info... | and one more thing. Yes, I am a fan of the habitat, but i'm also a fan a whole shitload of other musical talent local talent. just cause i don't want to sleep with you guys like lauren does, doesn't mean i don't like other bands besides habitat. i think you guys should relax, knowing that some people like you, and some people don't. . - Mon, 26 Jan 2004 8:25am
colin sic User Info... | just for the record, nobody from smallhorse has commented on the negative critisism. Its par for the course, we understand that not everyone likes us, and are fine with that. We have a good time making music together and are humbled when people like what we are doing. When I made the comment "thanks for all the love", it wasnt a sarcastic comment,it was refelective all the awesome feedback we had been receiving. We have actually used some of the reviews in our bio, check it out on livevictoria - Mon, 26 Jan 2004 8:33am
mcecill User Info... | easy now, oakfest featured bands of many differnent musical genres and therefore brought in fans of different musical genres. This should be celebrated. I got to see some bands on saturday that arent really to my taste by definition, but impressed me above all. Likewise, my band got to play our songs for people who probly wouldnt come to a heavier or "hardcore" show, this is a positive thing. break down the walls. - Mon, 26 Jan 2004 9:04am
-=PeNgUiN=- User Info... | Hahaha, i just read their bio. Smallhorse is a fuckin joke. - Mon, 26 Jan 2004 9:07am
