Howdy. I have a Yamaha A3000 (version 2) hardware sampler for sale. I'm upgrading to an A5K which is why I am selling my old one. Even if hardware sampling ain't your thang, the A3K makes a wicked effects unit (some really oddball effects in there) and for what it is worth, I appreciated mine enough to get another. If you have heard narc or griefer then you have heard the A3K in action. Here's an example of a track using nothing but the A3K:

http://ampfea.org/2/2157

The A3K is in good shape, includes the manual has 52 megs of RAM and can come with both a CDROM drive and / or a zip drive with it:

A3000 alone = $300
A3000 + zip drive = $350
A3000 + cdrom drive (and samples) = $350
A3000 + cdrom drive (and samples) + zip drive = $375

If interested drop me a note via:

Hey. Depends on what all you want with it. The sampler on its own I'd take $300 for (not that it means anything but it cost me over $2000 when I first bought it, ah depreciation is awesome). If you want a SCSI cable, zip drive and a blank disk then I'd want $350. I'd probably suggest asking around for a Zip second hand as you might find one cheaper, I'm just not that geared up to sell my back up one which is why that part is not super cheap.

Just to be clear, the actual RAM is 52 megs (that's what it worked out to once I swapped RAM into my new A5K). Generally more than enough anyway (I never maxed over that in my use of the machine).

So. . .

A3000 = $300
A3000 + zip drive = $350
A3000 + TX81Z = $375
A3000 + TX81Z + zip drive = $400

Hey. Here's more info than you will ever likely want to see about the A3k sampler:

http://www.ampfea.org/faq/?num=3&f_id=1

The A3K is best suited for those that like to sample (as opposed to solely dealing with presets). The OS is extremely "flat" in that the distance between sampling and using the sample is a lot lower than just about any other sampler I am aware of. On the A3K the patch architecture is like this:

sample -> program

So to use a sample, you:

sample
give it a MIDI channel, note assignment, etc. (almost all of which can be set to happen automatically)

. . .and you are done. With other samplers (software and hardware) you generally have to do this:

sample
assign sample to a patch
assign the patch to program
assign the program to a multi

with extra garbage at each stage. So this makes the A3K quicker IMHO than any other sampler to actually use for sampling.

What it is not good for is twirling through stock sample CDs as the SCSI speed sucks. It's not unusable or anthing but it is best suited for where you build up a sample set as you go along, loading stuff at the start and saving at the end.

Personally this is exactly what I do in that when working on as song or set I load whatever I had previously worked on and then continue building from there, saving when I am done so it works for me.

One other thing just so you know, is that it's PC integration is very weak. If you want to be hooking this thing up to a PC and sending samples back and forth it is possible but not the most straight forward or likely enjoyable thing to do. I've never used it that way myself since I find the menu easy enough to get around and I almost exclusively work with my own samples.

For griefer I found that a live set's worth of sound would easily fit in the memory space on the A3K. I'm biased because I have had the thing for a long time but I consider the A3K by far the best gear purchase I have made, at least as far as the amount of use I got out of it.

Another good thing is the effects unit which has a solid selection of common and totally weird effects. You can set the inputs to be on all the time which effectively makes the A3K a wicked effects unit.

Anyway, if you have any questions let me know.

As an aside, the Yamaha TX81Z is now sold so remaining deals are:

Yamaha A3000: $300
Yamaha A3000 + zip drive: $350
Korg EA-1: $200
Kawai MM-16 fader box: $80 obo (deal pending so be quick)

I will consider (partial) trades of other electronics.

Note, the A3K now can optionally come with a CDROM drive and some samples to get you going.

If there's no interest in the next week, this sucker goes up on Ebay.
