dear zombies/everyone,

I love you. I love you so much I'm stressing out how to save you from your selves. You see, yer all under a big stupid spell that is depriving you of your sentience. An inundation of distractions... I've re-edited this letter 3 times now... mostly because it has been leading to an articulation of my frustration with most everyone. So... I figured out a while ago that an individual's happiness is directly related to the happiness of the environment... AKA my happiness is the world's happiness... and the world ain't happy. The system is holding all our children hostage. Greenpeace is a joke. Amnesty International is a joke. The money thing. If it needs money it is so fucked and unessential... but what else is there? This tent-city thing IS the answer. But everyone has been waiting for the catalyst. Sometimes I'm pretty sure I'm a part of that catalyst and it is trying. This character I've become... oh gosh. Essentially it all comes down to the usual reasons people want to pass me off, my insistence on the impossibility of choice; the fate thing. Over time I've figured out that telling people they're stupid fucking imbeciles because of their insistence that choice is real doesn't really open them to consider. I enjoy being this divine sociopath I've become (knowing suffering is illusion) because it doesn't really matter if I ostracize myself from even my closest friends. I would rather not lose my friends... at the same time, my friends are being stupid fucking imbeciles in their failure to duly consider fate. Not just because I want someone to believe me but also because an understanding of fate is necessary in being fearless and enjoying all the benefits and abilities of knowing our true parameters. There is no evil and I was brought up as generically as most everyone else.... actually I hope all my friends who insist on believing in choice just go kill themselves so some real work can start being done. So, I love you all and fuck you.

David

Will all manner of free things flow to you so you can live your ilbeggoten life and tell others to kill themselves. I'm starting to think you are just one big viral joke. why are you convinced that a city of tents is the answer? why do you never actually directly approach any of the millions of valid responses people have to your ramblings? why do you need to express them at all? a person who strongly believes in fate usually coincidently has a personality that isn't rebellious. maybe you should go hide in the woods for a while, like everybody would prefer. "why are you convinced that a city of tents is the answer"

A city of tents probably isnt a bad idea.. Apparently its worked elsewhere. For the average street living type its perfect.. gets them off the street, and with their own little 8x8 plot to call 'home' maybe they can start rebuilding their lives or at the very least have some sanctity no matter how small..

DAJ on the other hand is a hypocrite.. he preaches at us to break free of the chains of society and money.. but his idea of a tent city doesnt seem to take into account that toilets, food and medication still cost money as do tents, blankets, fuel for heating in the winter, water etc.

Generations of hippys have made it work in communes by escaping the confines of the very society he leeches from. If DAJ was true to his word, he would have left the big city lights behind many years ago, with an army surplus tent and some cooking pans and hit the backwoods of Van Isle for some true communal living off the land. Whole families have been raised in communes on this island, its happened for decades, but they do it on their own and we never hear about it (until the govt or logging companies evicts them to make a park or clear cut the zone )

But does DAJ choose to take this free route? I suspect its far too much work for him now that he has gotten used to the handouts of our local soup kitchens and community support system. - Wed, 6 Aug 2008 11:17am

Exactly, and I've met a few up in Sombrio, surrounding area. Look, the point we're all trying to make is DAJ is a hypocrite. HE shouldn't be in our faces or on the steps of Goverment asking for things that aren't his. He should be proving himself, living in the woods, eschewing a consumer society (which I agree with in part) and showing us how we can do the same. As soon as he does that, maybe we'll consider his statements. The problem is, he is a leech and the polar opposite of a hippie - Wed, 6 Aug 2008 8:11pm Edited: Wed, 6 Aug 2008 8:13pm

But DAJ man, I think you need to get over your self. There's a lot of enlightened people out there that know we are all gods (or God), that there is no death, that suffering is illusion... A lot of people who really understand these (and other) basic tenants of just about every religion and philosophical system in the last few thousand years.

But you're missing out on the big one. Because you think you're better than everyone. You're not. Not even close. Sure, if you believe these things it's natural to feel bad for those who don't know... but teach them instead of telling them they're "being stupid fucking imbeciles" or anything like that. No one calls people like Gibran and Chopra and Krishna and Guatama crazy fools, but they say things just as out there and cryptic as you do... They just say it with a better intent. Try loving those you hate, and they will become those you love... if you know what I mean. Pissing people off won't change them. If you want change, change.

I used to be like you. Until I saw some redneck assholes stomp a small animal. I thought "I hope someone fucking stomps on those assholes!" and my wise friend said aloud "I hope they learn." that's when I changed. see everyone has the potential to be a better person, to really know what's what. But telling them they're not as smart as you is the exact opposite of what will help them. Get over your self... you are just a man. - Thu, 7 Aug 2008 10:14am

Dear people who don't see things as I do,

You're all fucked. None of you are good enough to know you're fucked, but I know. I'm good enough to know. I've gone over this letter 3 times now, mostly because, without proper education (be it social or personal), I find it hard to put my ideas in a text format. I figured out a week back that a person's environment is relative to their mood and outlook. If I hang out at a free concert with some top acts, I might feel disgust for everyone else but me. One of capitilisms outputs is alienation from labour. Groups like Greenpeace and Amnesty are just trying to better the symptoms of that, rather than try to change our socio-economic system, and, had I any money, I don't think I would want to give it to them. This tent city things looks pretty cool though. Somebody else will buy me supplies, and I can sit on my plot of land soaking up my own brilliance. I want it to happen, but not many people think it will work really well. I don't care. I know what's better for everyone. I know that sounds really arrogant and a tad selfish, but it's not. I'm brilliant, why hasn't anyone seen this yet? You know what? If you can't deal with my awesomeness, then can go and kill yourself. SRSLY

Ok...correct me if I'm wrong, but by DAJ's own words choice is impossible.
"...the usual reasons people want to pass me off, my insistence on the impossibility of choice; the fate thing."

However, by his own admission, chosing to ostracize himself has caused him to lose friends...
"it doesn't really matter if I ostracize myself from even my closest friends. I would rather not lose my friends...at the same time, my friends are being stupid fucking imbeciles "
Does this sentence not, at the very least, imply a choice?
Did'nt you (DAJ) CHOOSE to put your own head up your own ass?
That many people can't be wrong...(although I'm rather sure that you throw around the term "friend" rather loosley...leaving you with MAYBE a tally of 2 lost friends) - Tue, 12 Aug 2008 4:01pm Edited: Tue, 12 Aug 2008 4:02pm

DAJ- I think you are wrong in presuming people don't think they have any choice-I would argue that most people you have talked with regarding fate and choice believe actions are free in a limited, pre determined sense. People act based on the options available, and choose based on the merit of these options. Attacking people without any prior knowledge of the fatalist/free will argument comes across as pathetic on your part.

Moreover, if your tent city/homelessness/shelter/social right issue is predetermined as fate, what difference does it make if people participate in the process or not? You have no right to force people to believe in what you consider important; it makes YOU no better than any tyrant.

Happiness: Again I disagree, I would argue with all the shit the world is going through-people are happy. Travel to any third world country-where conditions by our standards are despicable-and you will find happy people. Humans have an amazing ability to persevere, even in the ugliest of conditions. I have seen this first hand so no need to counter. Happiness itself is a pretty subjective term as well, one persons happiness is another's misery is it not? I'm pretty happy not taking part in your process-whats so wrong with that? If you want to make the world a better place great, but that is on you to pursue and not force on anyone else.

The move you make from tent city to fate is a strange one as well. Like I mentioned before, not only do I think it works against your argument of persuading people to become involved, but it makes you look like a pompous ass, and no one one wants to listen to one of those. - Sun, 17 Aug 2008 2:19pm Edited: Sun, 17 Aug 2008 2:24pm

So there's two philosophers chillin on a bench at the park. Call them Bob and DAJ. DAJ says "there is no free will." Bob replies, "but of course there is." DAJ: "nope." Bob: "yes there is." and so on back and forth. No argument could persuade either... Until Bob gets really upset all of a sudden and jumps off of the park bench and pulls a knife on DAJ. Bob yells "There IS free will! I'll fucking cut you DAJ!" and DAJ says, "woah dude, no need to get upset. Control yourself, man."

So Bob says "ah, thanks for proving my point."
and that was the end of that. - Mon, 18 Aug 2008 10:46am

DAJ I would like you to propose a solution regarding the ontological argument of past & present on one hand and future on the other. We can not change the past/present because they are real, have already happened and are fact. The future however is not real, and open, thus it can be affected by what happens now. In essence, truth statements/ future propositions may be true at one time and not at another - to claim that present actions are powerless to affect the future and "logical" is not entirely sound on your part.

Claiming that people who "pass you off" as moronic isnt entirely justified, there are considerable grounds for criticizing your position (and rather poorly explained one at that). - Mon, 18 Aug 2008 11:01pm Edited: Mon, 18 Aug 2008 11:06pm

Everyone knows that you can only have 30-40 people taking a crap in the surrounding bushes for so long. I'm sure you must have thought this more practical side of your plan through. What did you have in mind for a sanitation system at these cities? - Thu, 21 Aug 2008 11:29am

DAJ,

So to paraphrase: if what someone says at a certain time is true, then the state of the world at that time must be such as to make it true.

logically then, does that not raise problems in regards to statements of the past? Suppose I say "The Woolly Mammoth roamed here (British Columbia) 150 000 years ago" For this to be true, must the present state of the world be such as to determine that it is? - Thu, 21 Aug 2008 11:58am Edited: Thu, 21 Aug 2008 11:59am

stew,

absolutely. everything that exists in the now could only exist because the past was what it was. the future can only be what the now will determine it to be.... so, where does that leave love? we'll see. doesn't really matter though. if there is purpose or if there isn't it doesn't affect the fact that there is no such thing as choice.

although, there is a confidence to be had knowing we no longer need waste time with resentment or hate as all people are products of their experience... a way to swim without fear, naturally saving the world instead of stressing out.

I digress.

That's actually not true. It just isn't. I'm sure you must have read some philosophy and history in your time. And the question of fate has been pondered by all great men and many not-so-greats as well, for hundreds of years (probably thousands, but not so well documented). No one has an answer yet, and it hasn't made a difference. I think the problem isn't whether or not there is fate- I think the problem is in the way we're asking the question. We come up with these concept words and then try to fit them into the way things are. Some people find fate to be a nice idea- so their mind naturally sees things that hint at fate and they say " LOOK! PROOF!" Others want the opposite, therefore see the opposite, therefore say the opposite. I don't think there is fate. I don't think there is no fate. The whole concept of either/or is ridiculous. Things are the way they are- we shouldn't pigenhole existence into genres like we do with music... Some things we can change. Some things we cannot. Somethings no one even knows happens until it's over.
