There are some fun and rewarding volunteer opportunities for " The Victoria SPCA " and the " Western Canada Wilderness Committee ". If you haven't checked either of these orgaizations out...then I recommend doing so. Provided you have an interest. Reluctant? Thats ok... Both are animal/enviromental based. Its a good way to make a positive impact and meet some cool people, gain some experience and the psychological benefits are worth the time and effort. You can visit their websites for information...
