Shlimmy Shlammer If anyone can help:

I am trying to set up a little home studio for recording ideas and demos. I bought a P4 cpu, a Delta Omni Studio (Delta 66 with a breakout box and mic pre's), a Studio Projects C1 condenser Mic and Cakewalk Sonar. The room acoustics aren't great, but they could be worse. My question are: Should I get an external hardware compressor and EQ/Fx unit, or can I get by with the Software's FX, compression and EQ? I have been looking around and Behringer's stuff seems to be the most reasonably priced. Can anyone out there who uses this stuff let me know what they think?

Thanks. - Sun, 1 Dec 2002 5:59pm
Anonymous first mistake...music only fly's on a mac....Behringer is cheap ass knock off stuff....and using DSP efeects sound shitty....and cakewalk is for school kids - Tue, 3 Dec 2002 4:37pm
josh first off
see if you can find a copy of steinberg nuendo on kazaa or somewhere like that. nuendo on a pc is better than any protools on a mac, all you need is a good soundcard, and the steinberg plugins are some of the best on the market. There's nothing wrong with dsp plugins, most of the high end rack mount effects are digital these days, and use the same transfer functions as the good plugins. The reason they are so expensive in comparison is that they need to operate with almost zero latency on the signal, and that takes fast and expensive hardware.
behringer is cheap cuz they reverse engineer all their designs and don't have to pay for research and development. there's nothing wrong with the quality of it though.
good luck on your recording - Tue, 3 Dec 2002 4:53pm
