Susi Hyldgaard Trio
The multi-talented multi-instrumentalist Susi Hyldgaard is a pianist, vocalist, accordionist, lyricist and composer. Born in Denmark and raised in New York City, Susi was exposed to jazz by her bass-playing dad, but initially leaned towards classical piano. Over time the rigid perfectionism of the classical realm made her uncomfortable and she turned to the expressive freedom represented by players such as Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett. With four albums out and the chance to collaborate with artists such as Michael Mantler, Nils Landgren and Dalia Faitelson, Hyldgaard continues to hone her unique Eurojazz-meets-pop sensibility. Whether recording with Jack Bruce or leading her own group, this Dane is a true star and she’s making a welcome return to JazzFest with her trio: bassist Jannik Jensen and drummer/percussionist Carsten Sønderskov. Fans of artists such as Bjork will enjoy Susi Hyldgaard.
