Event Description
Don't miss one of North America's most exciting young chamber ensembles as the award-winning Katarina String Quartet makes its UVic debut. Grand Prize Winners of the 2025 Fischoff Chamber Music Competition, the quartet is celebrated for its dynamic performances, community leadership, and thoughtful approach to both classical masterworks and contemporary music. The tightly-knit ensemble recently served as the 2024-2026 Graduate Resident String Quartet at The Juilliard School, and is the current Quartet in Residence at the New England Conservatory.
The program spans more than two centuries of string quartet repertoire, from Haydn's elegant Op. 50, No. 2 to Beethoven's monumental Op. 130, alongside Vivian Fung's vibrant String Quartet No. 5, "Spiraling" and the traditional Acadian folk tune L'Acadien d'Acadie. The concert is especially meaningful for the UVic community, as first violinist Jeanel Liang is a School of Music alumna.
