30 Seconds to Mars debuted in 2002 with a self-titled album. Produced by Bob Ezrin, the disc sold in excess of 100,000 copies and established the group as a modern rock band with a post-grunge sound a la Incubus and Chevelle. The support and club tours that followed showed the band could live up to its ambitions live, but it was with A Beautiful Lie, its 2005 follow-up, that 30 Seconds to Mars showed it’s not a one-hit wonder. An emotional album built around the theme of change, the disc expanded the band’s fan base while the song “The Kill” established the act as an MTV favourite (the video for the hard-hitting tune is for Best Rock Video).
Led by singer Jared Leto, who refuses to exploit his fame as an actor to promote the band, and his brother Shannon on drums, 30 Seconds to Mars is a seriously rocking unit that has left club and stadium audiences clamouring for more.
