Event Description
Tk The Artist is celebrating the release of his sophomore album, Trapped in July. This project builds on the momentum of his successful debut album, A Journey Under the Stars.
In the spring of 2025, over 200 people gathered at the Coda to celebrate the release, creating an extraordinary night of music and community. Since then, the band has gone on to perform at and headline festivals including Tofino Jazz, Black Music Month Van, Victoria Jazz Fest, and the Khatsahlano Street Party. They have also opened for established acts such as Alex Cuba, The Wailers, and Kokoroko. Most recently, Tk was nominated in the inaugural Afrobeats category at the Western Canadian Music Awards.
On September 18th, we’re bringing that energy back to the Coda.
Trapped in July epitomizes the blend of modern jazz, Afrobeats, R&B, and soul that has become Tk’s signature sound. Taking a contemporary approach to soul, the project combines the smoothness of R&B with the uplifting energy of jazz. Driving Afrobeat grooves weave through intricate horn lines, tasteful saxophone licks, and warm harmonies, creating a sound that is both deeply rooted and distinctly modern.
The songs capture the essence of living a fulfilled life and romanticizing the simple pleasures of everyday existence. They invite listeners to slow down, appreciate the moment, and find beauty in the ordinary.
Come celebrate the release of another monumental project in Victoria’s music scene.
Vancouver-based R&B/soul singer Emerald Osagie will open the night, while Victoria’s favourite DJ, Suar3z, will keep the energy moving between sets throughout the evening. And, of course, there will be a special surprise guest appearance.
Join us at the Coda on September 18 for an unforgettable night of music, community, and celebration as Tk The Artist brings Trapped in July to life.
