Event Description
Kouskous is a World Folk Music duo fronted by one of VFMS's favourite open stage performers, Gary Cohen. Gary brings his unique Mediterranean inspired vocal and guitar stylings, while his partner, Amber Woods, adds percussion (Middle Eastern hand drum, tambourine, spoons) and the occasional vocal.
Kouskous's repertoire is international and diverse, ranging from contemporary parodies to traditional folk songs sung in their original languages including English, French, Ladino, and Greek. They have performed at a variety of Francophone sponsored events, the Classic Boat Festival, and Greek Fest.
For tonight's program, Kouskous will present songs that give an historical overview of the industries vital to B.C.'s development as well as events that took place in and around Victoria. Topics will include the gold rushes, rum-running, and coal mining as well as a few tunes about the railroad, the sea, and some juicy scandals.
Join us tonight for the best and most fun history lesson!
