Join us on Saturday, August 8th (1-4PM) for the opening reception of Cyber Decay, a group exhibition in the MoCL Window Gallery featuring four artists: Riyanna Blando, Erin Beleno, Monica Wang, and Yisu Li!
Gallery Hours:
Thursdays (5-8PM) & Saturdays (1-4PM) Until August 29th.

About "Cyber Decay":
“Cyber Decay” explores apocalyptic visuals that highlight the contradictions within urban spaces, responding to and protesting the current political climate. The exhibition illustrates a colourful and fantastical, but dying world, using paints, digital art softwares, and found objects to portray apocalyptic landscapes that criticises the decline of society. Examining the intersection between naive idealism and optimistic nihilism in regards to environmental, urban, and societal issues. The group raised on internet, urbanization, and fantasy- uses visual storytelling to rebel against this decaying world to express their deep dissatisfaction with systemic failures.
About the Artists:
Riyanna, Erin, Monica, and Yisu are a group of Emily Carr University of Art + Design alumni that have been working together on class assignments and personal projects since 2023. Their bodies of work feature themes of urbanism, criticism of the status quo, fantasy, and whatever weird/nerdy hyperfixation they are obsessing over at the time.
Riyanna Blando photographs with narrative and colourful lens that incorporates illustration and
film. Her practice fuses abstract photography with dramatic and animated imagery, creating a
distinctive storytelling language that is uniquely her own. Riyanna’s work emphasizes lived
experiences within a dystopian world.

Erin Beleno is an artist, filmmaker, and illustrator who uses their practice as a form
of catharsis. Their art is often based around their own personal experiences and
struggles with depression which take form in whatever medium best suits the piece.
Trying to be their own light in the dark, their work can be bittersweet while still
allowing hope to shine through.

Monica Wang explores imaginary worlds through semi-realistic illustration. Her work features
wondrous, mythical humanoid figures inspired by nature motifs. Fascinated by the innocence of
nature and animals, she uses a delicate art style to explore ecological crises and biological mutation,
infusing elements of historical folklore that fuels her illustrations with mystery and whimsy.

Yisu Li is an illustrator and comic artist whose work is informed by alternative culture, children’s
literature, and 2000s cartoons. Their practice explores internal experiences of anxiety through both
traditional and digital media. Emphasizing fluidity in form and process, Yisu’s work is grounded in
surrealism and experimental narrative structures.
