Event Description
Honeybear is a vintage inspired soul, blues & roots quartet, taking you on an old school road trip through the dusty back roads of American music. While Honeybear is a relatively new band formed in 2023, the 4 band members are old friends and have been playing together in other formations for well over 20 years, crossing paths on tours across Canada, down the West Coast, and beyond. As individual performers, they've played at most major Folk and Jazz/Blues festivals in Canada. When the pandemic struck and live music was at a standstill, the 4 friends found themselves jamming outdoors in parks, with amps and PA's hooked up to jerry rigged motorcycle batteries, just to bask in the joy that is playing live music with like minded souls. Necessity is the mother of invention, etc. The rest is history.
Their debut EP and follow up singles released in 2024/25 have received well over 2.5 Million streams on Spotify and ~100k monthly listeners, and featured on official Spotify Editorial playlists Nu Blue, New Music Friday, Blues Bar and Best Blues of 2024. The band is looking forward to releasing their first full length FACTOR funded album in June 2025.
The band is fast becoming a festival favorite, with a main stage appearance at 2024 Rifflandia, and in 2025, the band is set to perform at the Vancouver Jazz Fest, Starbelly Jam, Wapiti, Barnside Harvest Fest, Harmony Arts Fest, and more!
Fun fact: Keyboard player Mike Kenney has the distinction of playing more sold out shows at Vancouver’s Rogers Arena than any other musician – as the organ player for the Vancouver Canucks!
Colleen Rennison draws inspiration from the golden era of soul music, evident in the infectious groove and melodic sensibilities of ‘I Do.’ The artist’s admiration for iconic acts like The Temptations and The Supremes shines through in the song’s sound, as well as in the heartfelt lyrics that convey the intoxicating effect of a summer crush. Rennison’s ability to blend retro influences with her own unique style showcases her artistry and creativity.
