When the brothers Berlin moved from St. Louis to L.A., it was a natural step. Lillian, Eve and Bosh had been living and breathing rock 'n' roll since they could walk, and it wasn't long before DreamWorks realized the potential of the trio and signed the Living Things.
The band's Turn in Your Friends and Neighbours EP and debut full-length Black Skies in Broad Daylight, both produced by punk and indie guru Steve Albini, demonstrated influences ranging from the arty pop of Robyn Hitchcock to the intense feedback of the Jesus and Mary Chain, to the glam rock of Marc Bolan and even the folk influence of Woody Guthrie.
The Living Things' most recent album Ahead of the Lions has spawned the dynamite AC/DC-meets-the Ramones anthem "Bom Bom Bom" (nominated for a Juno for Best Video) and a slew of rock 'n' roll soon-to-be-classics that put the Living Things in the upper echelons of today's forward-looking, back-to-the-basics rock bands.
Diamond Nights have been called ’70s retro-rock but don’t let that tag fool you. The band’s music might use Thin Lizzy and the Cars as starting-off points but Diamond Nights is just too creative and ambitious to settle for copycat status. Popsicle, the New York-based quartet’s debut, has received stellar notices from the likes of Blender magazine (which listed the song “The Girl’s Attractive”—also used on TV series Alias--as a must-download track) while the band’s performance at last year’s South X Southwest music conference was given props by New York magazine.
