Event Description
Multi-award winning Scottish trad fiddler Ryan Young breathes new life into venerable, often forgotten tunes by reimagining them in his own unique way. His performances brim with fresh melodic ideas, uplifting rhythmic drive and a great depth of dynamics and precision. Young is a leader of the new wave of Scotland’s trad fiddlers, playing strathspeys, reels and jigs that both transport you on an emotional journey and elevate your soul.
Ryan holds both a first-class honours and a Masters degree from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, was twice a finalist in the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards, and twice a finalist in the prestigious BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of The Year. He was awarded Up And Coming Artist Of The Year at the Scots Trad Awards in 2017, nominated for the Horizon Award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2018 and awarded Folking.com Musician Of The Year title, also in 2018.
In Dec 2025, Ryan will begin recording his 3rd album, which will be both produced and include collaborations with the legendary Irish fiddle player Martin Hayes.
Ryan will be accompanied by Alanna Jenish (guitar). Alanna based Peterborough, ON, was awarded the 2025 Canadian Folk Music Award for Instrumental Composer of the Year for her most recent album ‘Daleview’.
