Event Description
Michael Holt & The Kids (NYC) / David Celia
David will be starting out the show with some of his music, then joining Michael (plus Peter Murray and Don Kerr) in the main act. Catch this very rare performance of this spectacular band while Michael is in town. “XTC meets Glenn Gould meets Michael Holt”
“Michael Holt is a diamond among too many rhinestones. He brings empathy, ingenuity and raw dignity to his lexicon of heartfelt songs.”
— Bob Wiseman, Canadian underground music icon
New York City-raised Michael Holt grew up on Broadway, a few blocks away from Electric Ladyland Studio and the infamous CBGB’s, where he eventually performed on a regular basis. He’s been a major part of a few bands in that scene including “The Connotations” and Geffen signed “The Mommyheads”. Michael briefly lived in Toronto which lead him to meet his Toronto band, “The Kids”.
Michael Holt’s harmony-laden, vulnerably honest, and musically complex yet tunefully accessible music has been called “heart-core.” He’s not lived in Canada for almost a decade now so the warmth explodes when he’s with “The Kids”. All esteemed, longtime members of Canada’s creative pop music scene, each is an accomplished studio producer in his own right: Don Kerr on drums, Peter Murray on bass, David Celia on guitar, and all of them on vocals.
DAVID CELIA
Mississauga’s David Celia is an innovative singer/songwriter and astonishing guitar player, known for his spontaneously driven live performances.
