Event Description

Canadian national treasures Deadbeat + Mike Shannon debut in a live collaborative performance context set within a heritage cathedral turned concert hall.

Deadbeat has long been established as a pioneer within electronic dub music. His oeuvre covers a diverse spectrum from ambient to deep hypnotic techno, reflected in releases on labels such as Pole’s ~scape music, Montreal’s Constellation Records and his own BLKRTZ imprint. His remix work has brought him into collaboration with legends like Lee Scratch Perry and The Orb, and he has even revisioned the music of artists like The Cowboy Junkies and Victoria's own local punk heroes NoMeansNo.

Next to Richie Hawtin, Mike Shannon is Canada’s best known ambassador of techno to the world. Since the late 90s, Mike has curated an exquisite slate of releases on his Cynosure and Haunt Recordings imprints, providing a platform for Canadian and International artists. Mike has also released on seminal techno imprints like Plus 8 and Force Inc Music Works. This will be Mike's first appearance on Vancouver Island in over 10 years!

Also performing will be Longwalkshortdock, reunited with Rim Visuals. Longwalkshortdock has performed live for many years, on many stages, and with the likes of Phil Western (Download, Skinny Puppy, Kone) and opened for talented artists like, MSTRKRFT, Opiuo, Junkie XL, Vibesquad, Alex Patterson (The Orb), Mimosa, Adam Freeland. Always working to enhance and upgrade the LWSD live experience, Dave collaborates with veteran of visual wizardry Tim Hill of RIM Visuals (who just got off tour doing live visuals for 80s synth pop Canadian Icons Images in Vogue). While Longwalkshortdock is a mainstay on the BC club and festival circuit known for his unique EDM performances that draw on metal influences, since the pandemic Longwalkshortdock has also been renown for rare sets of ambient music - which he will perform on November 15th at Alix Goolden Hall.

Local support includes Scree Running (Resonance Collective), Telurk (featuring a theremin-controlled laser show by Rozek) and ϸόKA.
