Event Description
Have you ever noticed the colourful end papers on some hard cover books and wondered just how this is done? The art of marbling paper dates back to at least the 12th Century and has been used in Japanese calligraphy, in calligraphic panels of verses of the Qur’an, on 18th century bank notes as well as in 19th century European bookbinding.
This fall, you will have the opportunity to attend a paper marbling workshop and try your hand at this unique surface decoration method which can produce designs reminiscent of smooth marble. Art conservator and director of interior restoration at Ross Bay Villa Historic House Museum, Simone Vogel-Horridge, will lead the class through three unique techniques of paper marbling. Participants will make their own marbled paper which can be used for cards, wrapping paper or even book binding.
This workshop at Ross Bay Villa is on September 8th, 2023 from 1:00pm – 4:00pm. The fee is $65.00 which includes instruction, materials and refreshments. Reservations in advance are required at https://tinyurl.com/4e6j7c4y. All proceeds support Ross Bay Villa, a volunteer based historic site in Fairfield.
