PAUL PLIMLEY is a pianist/composer/improvisor active nationally and internationally for more than 25 years. He has toured many times throughout Europe, Canada and the United States. There have been international TV and radio broadcasts of his music, ranging from solo concerts to ensemble collaborations and over a dozen CD recordings with musicians from around the globe.Vancouver based Paul Plimley is a national treasuer and continues to be a significant voice of new music playing the piano inside and outside creating a sonic architecture in the process.
Bassist Tommy Babin , a recent newcomer to British Columbia from Montreal, has performed and recorded with a wide variety of artists in vastly varying styles.
Originally from Nova Scotia, he left for Montreal after high school to study with renowned jazz bassist Michel Donato and quickly became part of that city's eclectic music scene.
Tommy has performed worldwide- in the last year alone across Canada, U.S., Poland, France, Switzerland and China - and recorded some 30 albums with such artists as jazz saxophonist Joel Miller, alt-pop songstress Jorane, Juno Award winners Jesczce Raz, composer and DJ Ramachandra Borcar, singer-songwriter Thomas Hellman, alt-jazz mavens Les Projectionnistes, and Canadian punk-rock legend Alex Soria.
Also a composer and arranger, Tommy recently arranged the off-kilter Eastern European soundtrack for Stella Goulet's film "Le Pension des Etranges", and has produced albums by Sky Beneath My Feet and Jesczce Raz.
Upon moving to Vancouver in the Spring, Tommy quickly began working with Mr. Plimley and is currently studying the modern Rabbath bass technique with American bassist Glen Moore.
The Plimley/Babin Experience have been shocking and rocking the world of music since March of 2005, when they played together for the first time. They are pleased to take their music out of Vancouver and now eagerly await to share a formidable journey with all new music lovers of Victoria playing originals, standard and open improvisations.
