TOURING DOWN UNDER: HOW TO TOUR IN AUSTRALIA
Ridin' down the highway
Goin' to a show
Stop in all the byways
Playin' rock 'n' roll
Gettin' robbed
Gettin' stoned
Gettin' beat up
Broken-boned
Gettin' had
Gettin' took
I tell you, folks
It's harder than it looks....
- Bonn Scott, AC/DC
Despite Bonn Scott's glamorous description, Australia remains an elusive bucket-list destination for Canadian musicians. I mean, you can't be further away from home and MORE ON TOUR, right? With some similarities - and many differences - come chat with Jai Sparks from Aussie band HATERS, and gain some insight on touring down under, whether it's feasible for your band, how to do it, and whether Bonn Scott's depiction checks out nearly 50 years later.

JAI SPARKS (Haters, Hello Gardener Records):
Jai Sparks is the singer/guitarist of Australian indie/garage punk band Haters. He is the director of development label Hello Gardener and manager of 4 piece indie band Betty Taylor. He started his career as a dirt-bag punk kid stealing PA’s and commandeering empty spaces. At 13 he played his first show and started touring his home county of Australia at age 18. Jai has played most major venues all over Australia as a headliner and supporting international and national artists. Within the industry he has worked for major labels, indie labels, booking agents and promoters. In the past few years his focus has been on international development, both in Haters and as a manager/label owner.
