The UVic Orchestra, conducted by Ajtony Csaba, performs Glinka’s Ruslan and Ludmilla Overture, Ravel’s Le tombeau de Couperin, selected pieces from Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty, plus the Brahms Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 77 featuring UVic Concerto Competition winner Jeanel Liang.
Violinist Jeanel Liang is a passionate chamber, orchestral, and solo musician currently completing a BMus in violin performance at UVic under the tutelage of Ann Elliott-Goldschmid. She has been awarded several accolades including winner of the 2019 UVic Concerto Competition and the Strauss Foundation Scholarship, which will bring Jeanel to the summer academy at the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg in August 2020. This past summer, she attended the Aspen Music Festival and School in the studio of Juilliard professor Naoko Tanaka. Alongside school, Jeanel regularly performs with her string quartet and substitutes with the Victoria symphony.
