Event Description
Join us for an intimate evening in celebration of nature, with one of its most dynamic animal groups. Enjoy a relaxed cocktail reception with canapés in the waterfront Gallery overlooking Victoria’s beautiful Inner Harbour before taking a seat with world-renowned artist and naturalist, Robert Bateman.
Robert will introduce the Gallery’s newest exhibition: Plumage – The Majestic Art of Birds – while also sharing some of the exciting changes coming to the Bateman Foundation and Gallery.
This unique exhibit, which features a collection of paintings, photography and sculpture, spans more than 150 years, and focuses on the ability for birds to reflect nature’s expression of colour, beauty and creativity. It features historically significant artworks by major North American naturalists and artists, as well as contemporary images by local wildlife photographers.
Birds offer a connection to the natural world – which we are losing more and more. Robert Bateman profoundly believes that, ‘the world would be a better place if everyone was a bird watcher‘, and it is through conservation, science and art that we can rebuild our connection to nature. Come and see the works of some of the world’s most iconic and pioneering naturalists of North America, often quoted as major influencers of Robert’s work, and hear about his vision and hopes for the future.
