Event Description
The Victoria Sketch Club is celebrating its 110th year in full swing operation, being the oldest art group in continuous operation in Western Canada since 1909. The VSC is formerly named Island Art and Craft Society since 1909, and then in 1952 the Victoria Sketch Club.
VSC has been hosting members resolved to provide a focus for artistic development in the region.
Its efforts were bolstered by the likes of the influential Crease and Pemberton families.
The club’s past members have been notables such as Emily Carr, Jack Shadbolt, Max Maynard, Samual Maclure, and Ted Harrison. Emily Carr stands out as the Society member who put Victoria on the map.
Current members continue the tradition and include prize-winning members of the Federation of Canadian Artists and are hanging in several galleries throughout Victoria.
The much anticipated VSC Annual Art Show and Sale will open Tuesday March 19th, 2019 (7pm to 9pm) and run until Sunday March 24th (4:00pm) 2019. It will be held at the Glenlyon-Norfolk School gym, Beach Drive Campus, 1701 Beach Drive (Oak Bay), Victoria which is the forty seventh year at this location.
Celebrating with us and the opening speaker for this 110th Annual Art Show and Sale event is
His Honour, Kevin Murdoch , Mayor of Oak Bay.
There will be artist demonstrations, door prizes and over 100 paintings on show and for sale over these five days concurrently.
