About Magic Man:
You don’t get this kind of immediacy in music much anymore, not in a band that can play with such precision. You rarely see a band, just a few years out of college playing with the gifted focus of consummate professionals while also throwing themselves around stage with the abandon of kids at a punk show in someone’s friend’s basement. Magic Man leave themselves on the stage, roughing up their tight, euphoric pop anthems and giving up everything as they simultaneously invite you in.
In a way the band’s been two decades in the making. Alex and his childhood friend Sam Lee met in preschool grew up playing in bands together and stayed close through college, when they started a new project while working on a farm in Europe one summer. Now they’re living a particularly lucid version of that childhood dream — playing summer amphitheaters all over the country, their debut single “Paris” a staple on alternative radio, a publishing deal with Dr. Luke.
It’s telling of the unlikely but inherent intimacy of their hook heavy rock songs that their fans are superbly loyal; the atmosphere at each performance is one of vitality and recognition, the audience responding as if they were witnessing the Bruce Springsteen of their era, those stadium size guitar riffs reimagined for a generation raised on synth.
Magic Man’s music at its best creates a sense of weightless promise. Album standouts like “Waves” and “Catherine” are effortless, epic and delivered without pretense, and the band’s full length debut Before The Waves is built on a rare mix of innocence and experience. It along with Magic Man’s widening tour orbit — serves as something of a statement of intent for the band: they’re here to keep doing this, turning every show into something singular, reckless, comfortable, and real.
About The Griswolds:
After dominating international stages in 2015, The Griswolds are set to venture out on their next North American tour this spring. The ‘Hotline Spring’ tour will see the band embark on a co-headline run with electronic-rock outfit Magic Man to 29 markets throughout the United States and Canada. To kick-off another enormous year of worldwide touring, the band will also head out on another run with Walk The Moon in January, 2015 – this time throughout their home country, Australia, as well as New Zealand.
2015 saw The Griswolds tour their emphatic live show to international audiences off the back of their debut album release, ‘Be Impressive’ (2014). With unrelenting momentum, the four-piece garnered new fans throughout the globe by performing headline shows and festival dates in the United States, Canada, Singapore, United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Belgium, Mexico, Germany, Australia and New Zealand.
The Griswolds’ first bio simply read: “The chameleons of pop.” That description holds true for the Sydney indie pop group, formed almost three years ago by singer/guitarist Christopher Whitehall and lead guitarist Daniel Duque-Perez, as they look to become a globally known act. The duo was quickly joined by bassist, Tim John, and later on drums by Lachlan West, who were at the time both playing in legendary Australian rock band, The Vines.
Forming in 2012, The Griswolds leapt to a roaring start after being handpicked as a triple j Unearthed feature artist, and winners of the Parklife Unearthed competition. Praise from over 100 blogs around the globe followed quickly – all simply by posting their debut single ‘Mississippi’ online. Second single, ‘Heart of a Lion’, was immediately added to high rotation in Australia on triple j radio, ending 2012 as one of the station’s most played tracks of the year. The international airwaves were quick to take notice, with ‘Heart of a Lion’ attracting airplay in over 20 countries worldwide, achieving #3 on the radio airplay charts in The Netherlands via tastemaker station 3FM and an iTunes Single of the Week in the region.
Recorded under the guidance of legendary American producer Tony Hoffer (The Kooks, Beck, M83, Ladyhawke), ‘BE IMPRESSIVE’ is The Griswolds’ debut full-length album. Featuring breakout single ‘Beware The Dog’ (Top 40 US Alternative Radio / triple j high-rotation / #28 triple j's Hottest 100 2014), ’16 Years’ (FIFA 2015 Soundtrack) and ‘If You Wanna Stay’, the album has received a global release via Chugg Music (AU / NZ) and Wind-Up Records (Worldwide) in August 2014.
