During June of 1967, it’s announced that the Centennial Society of Greater Victoria is giving the city’s pop music groups a chance to battle it out for centennial awards. The society, working in tandem with the city and the local American Federation of Musicians union, creates the Centennial Battle of The Bands. Semi finals with 20 bands were done in two rounds at Memorial Arena from 12:00 noon to 4:00pm on Saturday June 17 and 24 with the finals being held July 1st at Centennial Square. The day began with local group “The Foundry Brass” featuring keyboardist David Foster and bassist Valdemar (Valdy) Horsdal being introduced by Vancouver radio personality Fred Latremoille followed up with performances by The Antics, The Motifs (Gullivers Travels pulled out of the finals and were replaced by The Motifs), The Imprints, The Marquis and eventual winners Blues X Five (pronounced Blues By Five).
For physical events that happen at a specific time. For example a concert, or dance performance. If there are multiple shows, you can still duplicate your event to cover them all.
