Event Description
Martina Griffiths pays tribute to Canadian songwriters, performing in her signature ‘Fun Fused Jazz’ style, the ‘Great Canadian Songbook – Volume 1’ in the infamous, retro styled Tiki Bar Lounge.
Martina a true red and white Canadian. She was born in Montreal; grew taller in Ottawa and Toronto; played water polo in every Province across Canada; trapped in the wild Yukon; attended university in Victoria; rode a bicycle across Canada before flying back to attend music school, and finally settle in Vancouver.
Last year this Maple Leaf found herself living smack dab in the middle of Manhattan, New York for a year: “ I spent my time studying music, voice and performance. As a Canadian living in New York City surrounded by music from every decade, genre, and corner of the globe - I was filled with a sweet nostalgia and appreciation for all things Canadian. At that moment a light bulb of inspiration turned to create the 'Great Canadian Songbook Volume 1' show.
Canada has produced some of the greatest songwriters in the world and I am thrilled to be able to sing and perform a selection of their songs.
For the 'Great Canadian Songbook Volume 1' show I have chosen some of my all time favourite Canadian Songs. Ranging from Neil Young's 'Only Love Can Break Your Heart, to Mitsou's 'Bye Bye Mon Cowboy, to Justin Bieber's 'Baby', to Ian Tyson's 'Four Strong Winds', and many more”.
The songs are delivered in her signature 'Fun Fused Jazz' style, or as some people like to call it; Fuzz.
