Oliver Swain, Emily Braden and Kentuckian Cellist Ben Sollee(The Sparrow Quartet) met last summer on stage at the Canmore Folk Festival. The workshop was so thrilling that the three have v=created a follow up tour with each member contributing material to this kinetic triple bill!
Those who know Oliver Swain and Emily Braden are aware the two have been collaborating for years; the award winning NYC Jazz singer and WCMA nominated folk artist have wowed international audiences from coast to coast touring with Swain's band BIG MACHINE. But last year something magical happened when they were paired with Kentucky-born cellist and former Sparrow Quartet (Bela Fleck) member Ben Sollee, during a festival workshop. For everyone involved, it quickly became obvious that the combination of the three created a unique spark that doesn't often happen.
In attendance at that show was Peter Wrench, a Brighton (UK) based Theatre Owner who said, "My award for the very best session from a fine set of musical encounters has to go to a Big Machine/Ben Sollee jam on Monday afternoon. The combination of Sollee's cello and Swain's double bass and Emily Braden's beautiful jazz-inflected vocals, set up a rolling beast of a sound which seemed to surprise and delight its creators just as much as their audience. Everything from straight country to 'Kentucky calypso' to chaingang hollers was grist to a very fine mill."
For physical events that happen at a specific time. For example a concert, or dance performance. If there are multiple shows, you can still duplicate your event to cover them all.
