Event Description
Come to the Second Story for an evening of obsessions, demons, art, pop culture, memoirs and more...
The Perpetual Motion Roadshow is an indie press touring circuit with monthly stops on the east and west coast.
This roadshow includes:
- Sonja Ahlers (from Vancouver)
- Jim Munroe (from Toronto)
- Patrick Love (from Vancouver)
& weirdo vidz from Novel Amusements!
SONJA AHLERS stopped making art in high school b/c of boys & clothes but was more obsessed with drama club. By her mid-twenties, after a traumatic event, she started making art again. She made tiny books & objects & invented the fierce bunny as well as amassing a large group of penpals. Her work continued to snowball from photocopied books to a published graphic novel entitled "Temper, Temper" (Insomniac Press, 1998). This made the top ten list of one of her idols & has become a 'cult classic' (not her words). She keeps all her rejection letters & is up a slow burn. She will be doing an interactive presentation of her new book, "Fatal Distraction."
JIM MUNROE is a "pop culture provocateur," according to BookSense.com. After the Harper Collins release of Flyboy Action Figure Comes With Gasmask (praised by people as diverse as Naomi Klein & Neil Gaiman) he chose to release his following books (Angry Young Spaceman, Everyone In Silico) on his own imprint, No Media Kings (www.nomediakings.org) as a statement against Murdoch-style consolidation. He's touring with his new novel "An Opening Act of Unspeakable Evil," a tale of the urban occult made up entirely of blog entries. "An Opening Act has all Munroe's trademark charm, his wonderful, rueful fondness for his own characters, and a genuine mystery: is Lilith a demoness or isn't she?" - Georgia Straight
PATRICK LOVE has spent time doing much, and alternately very little. He has attended elementary school, high school & university; satisfying graduation requirements enough to forego repetition. He has washed dishes, cleaned stables, dispensed frozen yogurt, delivered papers, baked pastry, driven Greyhound buses, fixed bikes, slung hash and served in The Light Infantry. He is currently a mailman in Vancouver who bristles at the invasion of big box & franchise businesses, and has recently been run over by an SUV. Patrick will be reading from his "Army Dink" memoirs.
