Rated one of the “jazz world’s most important pianists” by The New Yorker, American-born Vijay Iyer is a self-taught marvel who began making music at age three. With a deliriously-inventive, anything-goes approach, Iyer makes nods to piano gods like Monk and Ellington while incorporating everything from rock and soul to hip-hop and electronica. Among many other accolades, his 2011’s "Historicity" was Grammy nominated for “Best Jazz Instrumental Album.” Iyer is, quite simply, one of the most thrilling and original voices in the world of jazz. His extraordinary rhythm section includes the versatile drummer/composer Tyshawn Sorey and his long-time bassist/composer, Stephan Crump.
