Here's your chance to make music with the Universal Gospel Choir, to
learn some great gospel and world music, even to step up as a
soloist! The evening has been described by one participant as "a
long, tall drink of soul." Many have commented that the sense of
community they feel through singing inspirational music with a large
group feels like "doing church." It's a fun, cozy, old-timey thing to
do with your entire family.
Here's how the Community Sing works. The UGC will sing a couple of
numbers to warm things up. Then, in the time-honoured oral tradition,
Brian Tate, the choir's music director, teaches the "audience" the
parts to songs. (There really is no audience, as everyone sings, and,
the choir is part of the audience!) Confused? Suffice to say, you'll
learn the parts to some cool songs, Brian will direct these songs,
and before you know it you'll be singing and hearing some of the most
sublime and exciting harmonies you can imagine. There are percussion
instruments to be played, and microphones for the brave souls who
want to step up and take a solo. In the past, we've heard soloists as
young as six and as old as sixty. The UGC Community Sing is a
wonderful opportunity for everyone who always wanted to sing, but
thought they couldn't, and especially for those who were told they
shouldn't. You'll sing, you'll laugh, you'll cry. You'll leave
uplifted and inspired!
One more thing--yummy home-baked treats, tea and coffee will be
available.
