a long, deep, colourful day of the dead dance journey...
and the debut of a whole new Sunset Room vision.

The Mexican custom of El Día de los Muertos — the Day of the Dead — may sound much like our own custom of Halloween. After all, the celebration traditionally starts at midnight the night of Oct. 31, and the festivities are abundant in images related to death. But the customs have different origins, and their attitudes toward death are different: In the typical Halloween festivities, death is something to be feared. But in el día de los muertos, death — or at least the memories of those who have died — is something to be celebrated. Join us on Saturday October 27th as we come together in this long, deep dance journey to celebrate life, death, and those who've come before us!!
This weekend is also the debut of a sparkling fresh vision for Sunset Room - new colours, new sound, new tech & toys, new art installations.. LOTS more. We can't wait to share this amazing night with you!

Throwing down dynamic dance music since the summer of 2006, DJ Desunos (aka Laughlin Meagher) finds his roots in dub, reggae and world ethno electronic music, and now finds his home in electro/progressive house with a dash of breaks and tastefull trance. Through his work as a lead singer/songwriter, dee-jaying has become a natural evolution for this dynamic live performer. With 17 years experience on stage Laughlin knows how to rock an audience and is well known for his harmonica solos, his skill on the melodica and his live MCing & vocals. A skilled multi-instrumentalist and dedicated student of music, you never know what he will bring next to his show. Crossing many genres, Desunos has shared the stage with many local and international acts including Adham Shaikh, David Starfire and Timothy Wisdom. Coming soon to an overjoyed sound system near you!

Striving to bring people together through fusion of cultures and sounds, this promoter/dj/producer is frequently found rocking dance floors alongside heavyweights such as Adham Shaikh, Gaudi, David Starfire, Liquid Stranger, and Jef Stott. With his broad range of influences and keen mixing skills, Rowan deftly navigates through meditative & inspiring downtempo/Hip Hop, glitchy acid breaks, and high energy ethnic techno. This summer Rowan's dusk set at Lasqueti Escape galvanized some amazing energy on the dancefloor before Ganga Giri took the stage. Also making his debut at the Soundwave festival this summer, Rowan's talent and love for music will continue to bring him in front of amazing, inspired and intentional dancefloors again and again.

For the last eleven years, Davin Greenwell, otherwise known as AFK, has been pushing the progressive sound. Davin has been heavily involved in the West Coast electronic music scene through many years of community and FM radio, club and events promotion, and now most prominently with Pacific Front Recordings (PFR), a music label he operates with Justin Humber (aka Formulate). His performances, once under the name "ariz0na," have been regarded as legendary by many. Recording as AFK has seen Davin release several gigantic progressive tracks on his home label, Pacific Front Recordings, and has also ventured to remix for other labels as well. His latest pair of remixes have been of the venerable Benz & MD - two remixes of the atmospheric progressive house masterpiece called "Signals," and also he has put the studio touches on a brand new Powerplant and Kevin Shiu track called "8 Feet Under." His collaboration with Anand Greenwell, Tiebreaker, has been very well received, as well as his collaborations with Dustin H - the most recent being Seismic. Davin has been remixed by names such as Stefan Anion, Powerplant, Shiloh, Steve May, Dumb Dan, Jacob Todd, Dustin H, Jarius Miller, Fractal, Seed, Phokus, Desert Dwellers, Blake Jarrell, Matt Rowan, Jeff Devas, Influenza, Micah, Formulate, Jaytech, c79, His Boy Elroy and more. In addition to the Pacific Front releases, he has music released on Proton Music, collaborated with Dustin H for a release on Emote Music, done remix work for the Los Angeles label Ritual Sounds, and a release out on Inaspace Recordings UK under the guise of Royal Assassin with Thor Kell, also known as Fractal. Davin's music has extended globally and can be heard in forward-thinking clubs all over the world with support from DJ's like Sasha and John Digweed, Armin Van Buuren, Dale Anderson, Anthony Pappa, Hybrid, Luke Chable and many more.
JOSHUA :: Sunset Labs, Lost & Found | Vancouver

Joshua has been in and around the Victoria electronic music scene for many years, both as a DJ and promoter. Joshua infuses his infectious Progressive House grooves with layers of Techno, Electro and a dash of tech house - his energetic dance floors are always packed and pumpin'. Joshua has held several local weekly residencies, including the popular Sweatshop at Hush Nightclub alongside DJs Wookie and Beaks McGavin, as well as The Rise, and Rapture with local progressive house powerhouses Yoseff and Freya. Joshua continues to play numerous parties and clubnights, large and small, in and around Victoria and Vancouver, and has played alongside the likes of Nicky Delgado, Adham Shaikh, Max Graham, DJ Nemesis and Greg Benz. Joshua graced the mainstage at the 2008 Victoria Electronic Music Festival and was brought back to VEMF in 2009 as well. One thing is certain - Joshua always leaves them wanting more!
DUST :: Sunset Labs | Victoria

Dust began his DJ career in the frozen north of British Columbia in Prince George. Shortly after discovering his love of electronic music, he quickly felt the need to give back to the community through music and promotion. Dust began promoting with Vinylution Productions before becoming a resident and co-founded PGPK Productions with Scott Wright. Before long Dust became a leading DJ in Prince George and surrounding cities playing a variety of music from progressive to house and breakbeat. In the summer of 2004 Dust left the north for the sunnier shores of Victoria where he continues to DJ to enthusiastic audiences at various clubs, afterhour establishments and parties in and around the capital region.
